Default si problem

my mates got an m-reg si 1.4 and hes having a problem with his clutch. when he dips it, sometimes it just makes a loud click and while it still engages the clutch, gear change is a bit crunchier than it ought to be. has anyone ever come across this before? really dont have a clue cos its not all the time either, it just seems fine one minute, and sh*te the next. any help greatly appreciated lads.

Sounds like the plastic ratchet on the clutch pedal is worn and/or missing teeth which happens with age. Cheap to buy, but a bugger to fit.
