have to be a wide arch kit then mate, I recon they look mean, I think (I could be wrong, it has been know) that the MK II Fez don't look right if you take away the basic looks, like putting Jap style bumpers on.
Wide arch kit and smooth the whole thing out that would look ill, how about some 12" chrome wheels with streched tyres as well (I have some mates with Vdubbs) that'd look mint, and get some attention.

try demon tweeks, they have got some racing mirrors in the motorsport catalogue that are carbon fibre, they are similar to the xr2 ones in shape and size but look so cool!
or a mk3 fiesta bumper on front end pain to do but looks cool or an xpack kit real or replica still looks smart!

U don't want anything for the exterior! why not drop in a bigger engine. That would impress people a lot more! especially down the RWYB!
Anyway subtle exterior mods are usually the best way to go mate cos they always look smart. u go for big drastic mods then after a while they just look dated. stuff like de-locking the tailgate, getting the bumpers colour coded and smoothed and de locking the passengers door. i'd try and avoid removing the door handle on the drivers door. bit of an inconvenience if the solenoid packs in and ya have to put ya window thru to get in. same applies to the door lock. if the battery in the keyfob goes u do need a way to get in incase something goes wrong. hope thats of some use.
