will need a lot of work for it to fit. why not properly sort it with a standard mk3 panel??

i think the only reason the normal mk3 panel rusts is becuase there is some sponge stuff below the cap 2 catch petrol, (i think that was the idea) so a new mk3 panel will be sweet.

Im just putting ideas together. I was hoping it would just be a case of the panel fitting and a new fuel filler neck and pipe to the tank ?
I had all the sponge removed when my panel was done, but the rust is back im now thinking, once rust has infected a panel the only way to beat it is replace the panel.

didn't know there was sponge in there, that sounds a bit of a dumb idea to me.
you can get just the repair panel which is the part arond the cap, dunno of anyone thats fitted them but fords do them so they must be easy-ish to do, mine needs doing as the rush fariys have paid it a visit and its only just starting to bubble now, as for the 3.5 panel, i personally wouldn't fit it, to me it would make the car look like a look-alike come modded 3.5 fiesta, but i have to say the filler flap does look a bit better

Firstly, its not a Sponge. Its a black rubber which perishes with age, and for some reason leaves a rust ring right around the inside of the petrol cap. Which then starts to eat through the outer skin.

I have pics of what the inside of the outer skin should look like.

Will get em up soon.

i think you will find there is/was sponge type material there, it could be for sound deadening or something stupid like that

well, i think i will just replace the whole quarter ..... and a new tailgate as well

The sound deadining, isn't between the skins, its just put in from inside the boot, and pushed towards the petrol cap area, its the Circular black rubber that causes the problem, which i took out on mine.
