mine was a bit manked up a while back. took it of and let it soak with some toilet limescale remover over night. cost 99p and looked new the following morning but i dont know if this would work on one if its really brown in colour

Mike at Corby Motorsport i think you'd need some serious engine temps before a plastic header tank started to melt!
i too think a fresh standard one looks better. and id rather spend £130 on other things for my motor!
