could be the head such as a valve not seating correctly

a leak down test would be a lot more concise

or it could be the turbo :S

turbo mate, compression is okay around 140-145psi across the board, get rid of the shitty T2 and get a proper hybrid stage 2 T3.

Good stuff, you won't regret a T3 conversion its the most effective mod i've done, mines only a stage 1 turbo but i'm on standard boost but with your spec should go for a stage 2 it will work perfect on your engine and not too laggy, stage three will be too laggy.

1 bar is 14.7psi. so 10 bar is 147psi... ish. this is healthy for a turbo engine. i reckon your smoke is cos of worn valve stem seals, they doont cost a lot, only a couple a quid each and you can change em without takin the head off. do that before you spend loads on turbo stuff. little tip- you can remove the plugs and fill up the combustion chamber with lots of string. turn the engine carefully via the bottom pulley till it locks up and you can knock the valve cotters out with a socket and mallet. i've done it to several cvh's and its worked a treat.

If you get smoke on over run (between gear change) without a doubt turbo, if you can't see then get a friend to drive behind you boot it then let off and a puff of smoke will appear turbo may not be fucked but seal are getting worn.
