Default superchip problems

Hi iv had problem with my car and wasnt sure what it was, and had a friend check it out he run a few tests "the most obvious" and he also checked the superchip as the problem was the fuel pump was staying on "buzzing" and not stopping and the car wouldnt start after taking the Superchip out the car started i couldnt beleve it!

Has anyone else had this problem and what did superchips do? fix it or send a new one? i have phoned them already and have told me to go to my local im going tomorrow but will they fix it? Is it the superchip or would it be somthing else?

The fuel pump running continuously is a sign that the ecu is going into LOS (aka limp home) mode. Usually due to a poor connection on the chip or a faulty chip.

arr right! well its fine without the chip in "well i say fine its running quit rich but it had alot done to it and will do not having the chip in, also it always runs 19psi on a hybrid T2 and im not taking it over 7psi till the chip is back in..

im justy glad that you have told me the fault code i wasnt sure what it was doing before..it doesnt star at all when the chip is in so it must be the chip right?

thanks

Same happen to me when i brought my car modded up with a t3, begies etc but the overboost would kick when you floored it. Checked the ecu and there was no chip looked in the side door pocket and it was sitting there so i tried but the car would just turn and not start so i took it as being a faulty chip.

Got meself another chip and in the same ecu its working all fine now

So could be a bad connection or maybe even a faulty chip as mentioned by 'sailorbob'

get it checked by your local superchip dealer and see what the problem is and let us know

good luck

Very common seen it lots. Clean all th econnections up and 9 times out of 10 this solves the problem. I have never yet replaced an ECU or chip due to this problem

Im just on my way up to the dealer so hopfully it gets sorted,

i havent cleaned it or checked the ECU for dirt but i did replace it after i took it out but no luck..its realy hard to drive the car without it! it wont go over 3,00revs (dont want to ether!) cos it will hit the boost limiter

Also is it normal for the car to be running rich and making the exhaust go black (only since the car has had this fault?)

i shall lat you all know how it went im sure the chip is faulty tho

we get some of these at work, the chips are normally ok, usually the ecu, the tracks where the chip locates need re-soldering.

JayFRS06 19 psi, what setup are you running ?

The ecu needs re-soldering????? when i tried my chip it wouldn't start just used to turn over but wouldn't start. I got another chip put it in the same ecu and it worked.

I was told that it could be a faulty chip and sold it as spares/repairs and am flippen gutted now if it wasnt faulty as i think it was mapped for the car

JayFRS06: Impressive power figures there makes me wanna do something similar to mine

Do you know what low-comp pistons your running and what compression ratio??

Also are using the stage 2 Superchip (195bhp) or a custom mapped one?????

this problem is usually down to having the wrong chip, be it ofac or ofab or another programme totally

get another chip that suits the ecu code or reprogramme the 1 u have

(i have a ofac powerchip goin spare)

1.9 xr2 on 40's- mine is ofab it is the right chip as it has been on th car for a while now, the guy said that lots hav gone wrong due to who fitted it not making the connection stronger as its just a plug in unut thats why "superchips" always say use some tape on it to help take the strain.. but re-soldering the back will make it better im told..but they did also say if it is the chip they will get a new one and map it to my car for free if its not the chip they are going to charge 60 +vat for the job.

reisskahn-they are low comp MAHLE pistons

my chip used to play up after running the car for a while. i only had it in for about 50 miles as it just used to cut out and not start for a age. one thing i missed though. when i first bought it, i just plugged the fucker in after a clean up. it wasnt untill i done a head gasket that i thought whilst the battery was disconnected id plug the chip back in. guess what.?. this sorted the problem and it run 13 psi all day long and was reliable as death

worth a try?? who knows?

i had this problem with mine once i removed the chip to find the conection on the ecu not very good (dull).i got some emery cloth and GENTLY rubbed along the connectors where the chip plugs so they were all shiny again and its been mint ever since.i reccomend this before getting the ecu re-soldered mate

Don't use emery cloth (or anything else abrasive) on the J3 connector as they are circuit board tracks and very thin. You are more likely to cause more damage than cure anything. Best to use a proper PCB cleaner for tarnished tracks.

Spotted this and it sounds just like my problem! It took me 6 month to find the cause so I thought I would share the solution with you. The ECT sensor on the back of the inlet manifold

Mine would not start with the chip on, the fuel pump kept buzzing and the injectors clicked. No problem when it was hot, ran fine with the chip if only a little hesitant. The problem was that the ECU was not getting a signal from the ECT and the chip mapping was reliant on it, so it was trying to reset it constantly. The only affect it had without the chip was the ECU thought it was a cold engine and was always using extra petrol - hence the soot! My petrol bills halfed by replacing this Ł15 sensor
