Default replacing downpipe on mk 6 escort

Exhaust dropped off on the way to work and i just wondered if it was just a case of unbolting and bolting on a new piece or is there some welding involved? ideally i may just have to stump up for a new system completely.

looking at the picture would this be doable or is it whole new exhaust time?

Looks like the section with the cat has gone, but it should be a bolt up job

Just buy new bolts because they will snap...
And a new down pipe gasket...

Usually they just shear off, so not too hard lol

it looks like its your middle section is looking a bit worse for wear, so be prepared to replace that too if you take it somewhere.

i doubt its going to be easy to remove the damaged flange due to rusted nuts/bolts

well i nipped to an exhaust place and they quoted me Ł350 for a full new system. so i think ill just get the parts from euro car parts and do it myself as long as i can get the bolts off the flange.

WD40 wont do anything, its a water displacer (hence the WD)

you need plusgas or similar penetrating fluid.

either euro or www.buypartsby.com will be the cheapest

Right Update. So so close i can smell the roses but now im stuck with a bolt.

tried cutting it out and drilling it out and im a bit stuck. my next plan was to go up in drill size and just create a new hole but if there are any other options that would be good.

tried removing with a screw remover tool but it just threded it.

pics enclosed but if anyone has any good ideas before the end of the day i would be most grateful as im going to stay late at work to get it finished.

I had the same problem on mine, the bolt had rusted to the end plate. I took the whole section off and re-drilled the hole. Couldnt do it any other way myself. All done now and works a treat. Just make sure you get a new gasket and plenty of exhaust gum/paste. Its hardly the cleanest/smoothest of surfaces to get a nice tight joint!
