underside resto help
Right ive just had my saph painted in its original coulour. Ive always wanted to get the underside in the same condition but i have no idea about underseals, paint ets....
my cars mercury grey and never been under sealed, i presume this makes things much easier.
Im going to powder coat all the suspension parts and paint everything else myself as i want to keep costs to a minimum
thanks paul

Theres a coach yard up the road from me and they said they could steam clean the underside which would save me lots of hassle.
Im planning on doing the resto in my garage so not much space going on i know this is gonna be hard.
Ive herd that hammerite hammered grey is pretty dam good match to mercury grey

3M bag sealer is very very close to mercury grey. Its a flexible anti chip coating, expensive but supposed to be very good.
There was a guy on here that did his series 2 underside with it and it turned out very well!

I think you mean me.Yes 3M bag sealer is the best.Ł8 a bag and i used 15 bags and 3 tins of hammered grey.Just like mercury grey.
STEP 1:Wire brush attachment on a drill to get it all back to bare metal.
STEP 2:Etch prime it
STEP 3:Apply bag sealer.
STEP 4:Brush on hammerite
.
Time consuming but deffo worth it.
Here,s some pics to give you an idea.
Hope this helps..GOODLUCK

The bag sealer is applied with a special gun that fits in with a bayonet fitting. You will need an air line. There are easier and cheaper ways to underseal your car but 3M bag sealer is the BEST.You should of seen the face of the m.o.t tester when it was on the ramp.He got everyone in the test station to come and look at the 18 year old escort
