hi,not long had a new pc,quite a fancy thing aparently "dont have a clue with pc's" at just under £2000.but the bloody thing keeps freezing up and the mouse curser etc wont move and have to keep resetting it.have taken it back twice to the computer sho to the guy who built it and its still doing it.it can happen at any time but more often if im downloading stuff.ie music from limewire etc.im on wireless broadband if thats anything.totally clueless with computers and this prob is doing my head in

any help much appreciated

try installing some virus detection, it may be the files you download contain summat your pc doesn't like

Clean Boot – How to Disable Background Programs and Utilities


It is possible to start your computer with no background programs running at all. This is called a Clean Boot. Doing this may affect the way other programs run, and also leave you unprotected against a virus. If you wish to try this, and you have Windows 98, follow these steps:

1. Click on Start, and select Run

2. Clear anything that may be in the 'Open:' box, and type msconfig

3. With the General tab selected at the top, click on the Selective Startup radio box

4. By clicking on the ticks to remove them, and clicking in the small square boxes to add them, make sure that only 'Process System.ini file' and 'Process Win.ini file' are ticked

5. Click on Apply and then OK


6. When prompted to restart, click Yes

7. The system will now be running with a minimum set of background programs, usually just Explorer itself.

See how that goes, if you have a USB modem, run msconfig again, click on startup, and place a tick in the box next to your modem software.

If that fails, re-install Windows, if that fails, poss cpu / mem issue

 

if its that new, take it back
