Took the comp apart and found the heatsink completly filled up with dust

I have now cleaned it up

CPU: 32 degrees (AMD Athlon XP2600+)
Motherboard: 15 degrees

What CPU is it? If that's not an AMD, I'm surprised it didn't pop at a temperature that high!

My AMD Xp3200 usually runs around the 42 degrees mark, doesn't really change much under load and with the system on 24 / 7

You're very lucky that didn't go pop. Tony Turbo's P4 chip went pop a while back as a result of heatsink / fan failure. Burnt a hole through the chip

I just checked my temps in the bios:

CPU Temp: 43 Degrees C / 109 F
System Temp 28 Degrees C / 82 F

That about right ? Seem's to not budge more than that under load

Mine sits nicely at:

Idle:

CPU: 32 Degrees C
Mobo: 18 Degrees C

Load:

CPU: 38 Degrees C
Mobo: 22 Degrees C

Bit of a weird cooling method, at the moment, though, until I get the new case......case-side removed, 12" deskfan directed inside the case, and regular clean-outs with a "dust-buster" compressed-air canister!

CPU 33c under load
System 22c Constant
HDD 30c Constant

P4 3.0ghz, Maximum recommended Temp is 65c i do believe, anything more than that and it starts to throttle down like xpackcapri said!

Mine's with a program that came with my motherboard, called Asus Probe......it monitors quite a few things, like CPU temperature, motherboard ambient temperature, fan speeds, voltage-stability, memory usage, hard-drive usage, and so on.

I though't that was the case Which in turn means my system should be cooler than I first thought
