messenger problem

Ok no matter how many times i try and sign in it wont let me in so i tryed with a old version of messenger and i got in no problems...anybody got any ideas...new version wont let me in and a old version will

yes running firewall..never bothered it b4...i originally had version 7 but one day it stopped letting me in so im using a old crappy version..its got me baffled
