My pc is using windows 8 and every so often I get some thing on the screen saying high cpu usage is there anyway of finding out whats running in the back ground so I can turn it off.Im used to using windows xp lol windows 8 is sort of new to me.I can here the fan in the tower running a little faster than it should.Any tips or help would be great
ctrl alt delete and click show all .. processes should highlight everything running.. click on cpu at the top and will show what is using the cpu % wise..
possible causes could be antivirus scanning, indexing running etc ..
ok .. could try downloading ccleaner, within this there is an option that you can look at your startup list, and there might be one you do not need or even know about.

Ccleaner is more for older computers that are clogged with registry files and such like, running it on a new pc wouldn't do anything as it shouldn't be full of shit!?
My guess is the anti virus scanning in the background. What AV does it run?

Ive got Norton 360 for the windows 8
you can also use it as an easy tool to uninstall things, stop programmes from starting at bootup etc .. I bet if you did look at what was starting when your pc booted you would be surprised.. even on a self build win7 pro, that is not that old I have 6 items that no longer run, if its a "shop" built one then there is all the addon bloatware they have ...
I did nearly ask if you had Norton .. lol .. its not as good as it used to be.. my metaphoric finger is pointing there as a start ..
sorry .. I disagree with you there, its not just to unclutter things.

As a test can you turn off Norton for a minute? On Avast for example I can right click on the icon near the clock and it will say disable all shields for 5/10/15mins. If you do that and then check the task manager again, if its gone down then there's your problem
