Internet buzz edging towards February 20th announcement.

Can't wait, been bored of consoles for a while now, be good to see the spec and whats going to be new

 

I was thinking, if they do announce it, it'll be released soon after as I cant imagine they would want to lose out on ps3 sales for too long.

 

Little update incase anyone is following this.

Sony just patented the name "eye pad". So maybe tuesday big announcement will be them dipping into the tablet market, or maybe its something to do with new controller features?

 

papers today showed a picture of a stock looking ps3 controller but with a touch screen in the middle instead of the start/select/ps button

 

 

That's the one been doing the rounds. Its meant to be a touch pad like on the back of the vita.

Also its got what looks like a mic/speaker above the PS button, and someone pointed out what looks like a "move" sensor on the top.

Drive club just looked insanely good............

 

Like the idea of a few things.

Like the idea of streaming your games on friends consoles and if you are stuck on a game they can take control on your console and get you past the bit your stuck on.

Also the hard pause so you can switch off the console then when you switch it back on it will be exactly where you left it.

Also Gaikai features will be great. Every game on the store and trials playable immediately before purchase.

Had to laugh at the complete rip off of kinect and the Wii U's streaming features though and how quickly they just glossed over them.

Still the most important thing I want to know is release date and price. GDDR5 ram is bloody expensive

It's being priced around £300 to compete with the shitebox, so I've heard.

I like the new controller, looks far more comfortable than any of the last offerings.

 

I can't see either of the new consoles being that cheap, but I wouldn't complain if they were.

 

Shame it's not backwards compatible with PS3 games. Can see that putting a fair few people off. Games look awesome though!

 

I thought they said you can play playstation 1,2 and 3 games on the 4 or did i hear that bit wrong ?

It will be backwards compatible eventually, however you will have to purchase the old games again through PSN.

 

rumored to be cheaper than the ps3 when it was first released, find it hard to believe if its got all the latest tech stuff in it, maybe trying to win over a few xbox fans with cheap price and earlier release date than xbox

 

Not quite sure about that one as neither have release dates yet.

 

Ignore the £300 remark, digged everywhere and can't find anything about a price, typical internet BS!

 

Its the rumour of $500 that's been floating round with the November release date.

 

I was a bit disappointed to learn that the graphics card is based on a mediocre 2 year old PC card. The PC I got rid of 6 months ago will be better graphically.

I'll still get one to replace the PS3 I got at launch but I was hoping for a big step forward.

The jump from a Radeon 1950 based GPU to a 7670 based GPU is a bit....meh.

 

You can't compare the graphics card in a PS4 with the one that would be in a PC, they will be very different, the devleopers can get alot more from a console than they can the same spec of a PC.

If you thought they would be putting in a top of the range card from todays market you were always thinking unrealistic can you imagine the costing

I understand all of that. And yes the GPU will be redeveloped and better than a standard PC 7670 but I'd have been happy to pay a bit extra for a better chipset. Doesn't have to be top of the range, just not bottom of the range.

 

Agree'd, spec for spec its completely different. The fact its the GPU and CPU on the same board means instant response times between both. Plus "top of the range" GPU's for PC are around £700-800 alone. So that's never going to happen.

However, even though its not a big step it'll be what the devs can do with it once its been available for a while.

Watchdogs did look good but as usual for Sony there's always a catch. The footage they showed was actually on the PC. I still cant believe they held that event and didn't actually show the machine itself, can you imagine a car company doing the same at a motor show!

 

Happens all the time was on a similar spec PC would actually expect it to look even better, the whole point was an "announcement" they were never going to show something that isn't finished, same for the price and date, just confirming what people wanted to know and that it will be this year, should imagine it will be shown at E3

Now to see what Xbox do, all the leaks before this seem to be spot on and if thats the case the Xbox is lagging way behind in the spec department, should be an interesting year.

 

It will be interesting to see what Microsoft come up with, though to be honest the one thing that excites me is the 'steambox' (I think its called that).

 

I'm not sure if it was. There has been footage of watch dogs on PC, however, games devs have had mock up PS4's for a long time now. The guys at CDProject (the whitcher franchise) have said about spending the last few months using theirs to develop "The witcher 3".

Speculation on them not showing the console is because the console will not have a CD drive. All games are going to be digital download etc and people may have reacted bad to that... but who knows?!

TBH though, who cares what it looks like. Someone said, its probably going to be black, plastic and not a triangle


Really? Been following alot of speculation on both and several times I've seen leaked spec lists showing very similar specs. In some cases even the same AMD APU.

However, there is no way either would release a massively inferior console, and it makes no odd's with the majority of games being multi-platform anyway.

 

if it doesn't have a disc drive they could lose loads in sales... I get the digital download stuff, but what about when you want to play a dvd or bluray on it...

 

They would probably encourage you to subscribe to netflix.

They've already said second hand games will not work, so that either means CD keys or digital download.

 

Well it was cleared up last night why they didn't show the console, because its not been finished yet. They haven't chosen a final design apparently.

 

That's fair enough... But it's more likely they are trying to hold off to see what Microsoft offers...
Thing is, if they were so sure of their product, they would just stick their cards flat on the table... I used to be all for playstion 1 & 2.... Thought the original Xbox was shite..... But when it came to playing both ps3 & Xbox 360 the 360 was an easy choice IMO. Controller was more comfortable... Games were cheaper... The Xbox just felt better. Then with all the Sony hacking scandal...just topped it for me. I know loads who have both but only really play Xbox.not many the other way round. The ones who say ps3 is better always quote "ps3 has a blu ray player".... But you can pick up a decent blu ray player for £60.....

I've learnt to just think that Microsoft is Xbox, developers use pc's .... Therefore will always lean towards Xbox. You just have to look how much more support most games on both platforms... Xbox always does compared to ps3. I don't know why but it is what it is.

Also it appears you could also now have to pay to go online on ps4.......so the only two things people ever say is better on ps no longer will be..
I'm pretty sure Microsoft will have a few things up their sleeve and I doubt they are worried at all on what the ps4 has to offer. Yeah, the games look good, but so will xbox. That upload share gameplay..... Is a gimmick. The only good thing is about a friend helping you out on levels if your stuck.... Although, these days there aren't many people who bother with campaigns, everyone plays online so that deems that pointless....
I'm not too keen on people watching your every move. Bit big brother for my liking. The worst thing I heard about it was that they are removing gamer tags and you will have to use your real name... Taking away all privacy....I personally think this could be the last playstation....... Sony as a whole are crippling, tv's are struggling, their losing millions, ps vita bombed bad..... So they are now trying to tell you ya need one of them to go with your new ps4......... Erm don't think so.

I do hopefully pray ps4 has something good up its sleeve like virtual reality like some of the rumours claim. I would then possibly buy one... To put next to my xbox720 lol
