Over the last week or so, the wifi in our house has gone really slow and I have no idea why, the router is in the spare room, it works fine in that room but as soon as you walk out of that room you lose connection, go back in, it reconnects again. We aren't doing anything differently, tried resetting the router etc but no joy. Strange thing is it always seems worse at night. Anyone got any ideas before I spend hours on the phone to sky and BT please?

If you are able to log into the router change the channel to a fixed channel like James has suggested.
I bet ya that everyone on the street is set to channel 11 so try something a little lower like 7.

I had the very same problem some years back I spoke to my provider and the talked me throw it they said it could ov even been some one has but a new phone in there house nere me
As it sounds that your broadband is coming in via your phone line, it should be easy to move the router into the room where you use the internet most. The advice to change the channel is good but it will be worth identifying other channels that are in use around you - Download some software to help with this.
It's not just cordless phones that can interfere - Microwave ovens are another common problem. If you live in an older house with thick walls or a flat with metal supports in the walls these can also cause problems. I went to a house once where the problem you describe was caused by scaffolding put up to fix the roof.

the problem may lie in your network adapter, check in the adapters setting for power saver options and disable them, also update to the latest firmware and change to channel 1 or 4 as they seem to have limited use

Thanks for the replies, I know bugger all about this type of thing tbh lol, yeah, the router is connected to the phone line, we use wifi throughout the house tbh cos our 3g signal in our area is virtually non existent, I have wondered if maybe it was something the neighbours are doing that maybe interfering because like I say, we haven't changed anything and the connection is usually really fast and reliable. Pissing me off cos I bought Forza horizon and was getting into it, now I can't get on x box live lol. Or watch tv in bed. I'll see if I can figure out how to change the channel lol.
Thanks, Karl

what router do you have ?
you normally access it by typing 192.168.1.1(yours might be a different number depending on make) into your internet accessing programme .. chrome, explorer etc . there might be a handbook that comes with it to help you but once you know the make there are loads of guides on the net to help you
