upgrading from windows XP to Windows 7
Whats peoples views on this,as ive only used win 95,win 98 and XP.
For me XP seems pretty much bullet proof but i feel i need to move with the times.
Who else has done this and what do you think about win7?
cheers
steve.

I did exactly the same, been on XP since year dot, but found it was becoming out of date and new programmes would not be particularly great anymore.
So changed hard drives (so I could keep XP on the other just incase) installed it and after maybe a few hours I found it faster, clearer and just generally better tbh, though its's just like reading a map, once your used to jobs a good un!
happy days

I'm glad I'm not the only one still rocking xp
Just I only really use my pc for web browsing and listening to music on my 5.1 speakers, storing files etc so not really had a reason to upgrade.

Windows 7 and 8 I run. You all need to move with the times
Windows 7 is a fantastic bit of kit once you get used to it.
I couldn't use Xp anymore. It looks prehistoric when I have to use one at work with it on.

The most important points are often missed by people when they upgrade from XP - Is your PC specification up to the job as Win 7 32 runs best with a minimum of 2gb RAM. A clean install works better than an upgrade over the top of XP which leaves too much of the past behind.
Good luck with your upgrade and you will enjoy Win7 when you get used to it.

I've just bought a new pc 4.0ghz quadcore with 8gb ram so could probably just about manage to run it.
I bought it with no OS so have the choice of what to put on,just don't know if it's worth putting win7 on instead of XP.

I had no issues at all with XP but bought a new laptop with 7 on it. Took a bit of getting used to as it is laid out a little different but it's great. Its got so many little features that you don't really notice you use. I used XP the other day and had trouble with it, was like working with a dinasour!
i have win 7 pro... and xp on another machine ... oh how i hate xp now, deffo worth the move to 7. win 8 is deffo more suited to having a touch screen monitor though, and is really quite good to use that way .
had no problems installing 7 or with it running .

Its just an operating system! (how it looks does not matter as long as it works)
if you've got an old pc - your better off with XP
if you have a new/ modern pc - your probably better off with 7. but - you may have to upgrade some of your programs to work on it (sometimes at some expense)
got touchscreen? - windows 8

You would need a 64-bit OS to actually be able to use any more than 3.25 gb of your 8gb RAM, so I'd go for Windows 7 64bit.
The microsoft offer is still current http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/...&WT.medium=cpc and that where I got mine from - Got 64 bit 8 pro at £24.99. If your PC is new you may be entitled to the upgrade for just £14.99 but you need to talk to your seller.
If the PC has been used for a while it may be worth doing a factory restore to win 7 to clean off all your old stuff and then do the online upgrade. Needs an operating system to upgrade as I believe that you cannot clean install.

Just remember the countdown to xp's demise is on
Tuesday, 1 April 2014 is its end of life
May as well start using win 7 now. Its an excellent OS.
If you don't have enough ram get yourself onto crucials memory website and see what you need to but.

I never had xp my first lap top was vista which I thought was good then I got windows 7 and thought it was just the same as vista and now my new lap top is windows 8 and it takes time to get used to.Fast as fook as well.
Like i said at the mo i have nothing but a virgin formatted drive in my new pc,i think ill run xp on,update it sp3 then buy win 8 pro for the £25,seems a bargain not to be missed really.
Im looking forwards to a clean install again now, even though it can be a ball ache
