Default Memory help

My motherboard has four slots but can only handle 1gb per slot, I would like 4gb but can only have single sided ram if all four slots are used, which they would be. I have been searching online for ages but none of them say if they are single sided. Please help.
Many thanks
J

You can found out which ram is compatible on the gigabyte website.

I can't see anywhere it says you can only have 1gb per slot? You could just purchase two stick of 2gb each and use a channel for each.

Make sure you have a 64bit OS or it'll be a waste of time anyway.

In the manual that came with it, says in there that it is only 1gb per slot and single sided if all four is used. Checked on their website and there is only 2 single sided 1gb models.

On website it has this:

* Because of chipset limitations, do not populate both DIMM sockets of the same channel (e.g. DDRII1 and DDRII2), or populate 4 DIMM sockets with double-sided memory modules to prevent system's failure to start or incorrect detection of memory modules. Please refer to the user manual for the memory configurations table.

Just read this, the bit that has got me on the compatible memory page:

"This system requires single-sided/single-ranked memory modules when all four sockets are populated.
1GB double-sided(dual-ranked) memory modules may be installed one per channel. For Dual Channel mode, use
single-sided modules only."

Which to me sounds like its limited to 4gb. So if you are using ALL 4 dimm you can only use 1gb per slot. I still don't see why you can't use 2x2gb sticks. However, they would still have to be SS due to the dual channel restrictions.

Anyway,

I think the reason ram is not listed as single sided and double sided any more is because its very rare that a mobo can only read SS. So I now see why your are struggling to find some.

You may be better of upgrading your mobo as you are really going to struggle to find SS ram that is also the correct speed etc...

At the moment I have 2 1gb double sided ram running in dual channel, I did order 2 2gb sticks through ebay to see if it would work that way, but they got lost in the post.

personally i would look at getting a different motherboard, either that or looking at further upgrade options to 1155 socket. if your having that much of an issue with upgrading ram it might be worth looking.

just ad to your existing case ,save everything to a memory stick you need, fresh install of windows, and off you go
