Default Iphone advice

right, i have an old mobile, contract is well overdue. the phone is pretty lame, and i have wanted an iphone for a while now. the new 4s is here and i have decided i want one.

at the moment i am paying around £30 a month (plus 6.99 insurance) for 100 mins and 500 texts incl 500mb data.

my actual usage can be way below this (i used 13 minutes and 180 texts in sept )

now i have a few options. upgrade to iphone, similar contract and pay around £250 for the phone.

ditch my contract and get a pay monthly sim £10 a month and buy the phone outright £500 - Ouch.

not bother with the iphone and try and get a good deal on an HTC on a new monthly tariff

i have spoken to the upgrade people at vodafone and they just dont seem as flexible as they used to be, and all iphone contracts are similar.

i cunched a few numbers (cos i have spreadsheet OCD) and over 24 months:

sim only plus phone and separate insurance £880 overall
vodafone deal £863 +insurance +data charges
tesco deal £835 +insurance

Help!

If you don't use the phone that much just get a pay as you go sim. A lot of them you just put about £15 a month on and you get free minutes, internet and texts.

Buy a new Iphone 4 outright for £250-300 and a payg sim.

Whats the 4s got that you actually need since you don;t appear to use the phone very much?

Well stump up the cash and stop asking daft questions

The only thing is, I think your figures are a bit off. From what I've seen, the payg is cheaper over the term than any of the contracts. Assuming you stay within your £10 a month.

figures are fine....

i can get a payg sim for £10 plus £5.99 insurance a month, = £383

plus £499 for the phone - £882 for the 24 months.

Yeh that figure is fine.
But £30 a month for 24 months, plus £250 for the phone doesnt add up to any of the figures you put

Look into GiffGaff's tariffs - They're on the o2 network and seem blindingly cheap. A couple of mates are on GiffGaff and can't fault it. I'm definitely switching when my contract's up.,

If you get a new smart phone be it iPhone or htc then 500mb will be nothing, some apps can be 300+mb to download(most are 10-100 though), so may want to think about having more data allowance if you stick with a contract

i looked at them, one of the cheaper options, no insurance included, but similar to the tesco 24 month tariff of £25 plus £230 up front for the phone

decisions decisions

go and get iphone 4s from 3 for £49 upfront and £35 a month, yes its a 2 year contract but i normaly buy my self out after about 15-18 month anyway

For this cost you get 5000 text, 500 mins talktime and strangly i got 1gb per month data instead of the 750mb

I'm 14 months into my current 2 year contract with T-mobile

get unlimited text messages (ita actually 500 texts but has a free text booster to unlimited texts) 900 minutes and unlimited internet access for £35 a month. thats with a Samsung Galaxy S.

can upgrade anytime from June 2012

24 x £35 = £840.

Cant fault T-mobile, they've never let me down. deffo worth a look
