Default Anti virus software Kaspersky

I recently decided again to try kaspersky that every one keeps raving about, having had my year with Norton, with no problems whatsoever.
Anyway the kasper nigh on stops my computer, it can take up to 20-25 seconds for a item to load from youtube for example, then it keeps stopping all the time, making it un-useable.
I took the complete kasper off today and it is quicker than ever, even pausing the kasper makes no difference.
I only have a old timer athlon processor of 2.6giigy things what ever they are, about 10 years old my system, but it was perfect with the Norton, I know the obvious is to buy norton again, but at around £40 or so would rather try and get kasper working decently if I can, so I am asking for help from peeps that know more about these issues than I do, which is every other person in the world, as I don't do computers.
Thanks for any input, it was also taking up to 4 hours to do a full scan, is that normal ?

Have you removed norton? Two anti virus programmes will cause problems. Google for a norton removal tool. I have used kaspersky with on issues.

I ran the Norton remover tool, it defo speeded up, but was still too slow, videos I was watching kept getting jittery and stopping, but only the video part, the soundtracks were not affected.
As a experiment I deleted kasper and it flies downloading, 1 ever so slight hiccup out of about 10 videos watched, wish I'd never bought it now, waste of £45 imo.

I personally would never pay for A/V, there are plenty of decent FREE products out there, AVG, Avira etc to name a couple.

I have never used Kaspersky, despite being able to for free so don't know the product, but if it slows your machine down then it's most likely has high resource utilization either in terms of CPU/Memory usage.

As to scanning it depends on two things mainly, The volume of data you have, and the spec of your system, that coupled on with the type of scan you are performing, i.e. quick, full etc.

You could probably configure Kaspersky to be faster by turning off the add-ins etc to stop it interacting with your web browser, it's going to be whatever it is performing in the background etc that is impacting on the performance.

I use Avast antivirus, have done so for about 10 years without an issue. Have you got the CCleaner program? It's a registery cleaner that gets rid of the unnecessary crap on the hard drive. Also, when did you last defragment it?

As a bonus it talks to you as well Ccleaner is a system optimisation tool, very good as you say, be careful re the registry part of it to the OP, if it thinks a registry key is bad when it's actually needed and you go and remove the suspect keys you will be in trouble, (This applies to anything where the registry is concered)! If you do always create the suggested backup when prompted!

100% agree with you Richie - Free and reliable Avast + CCleaner now and again to keep it all running tip-top.

I use Kaspersky and have done for years and swear by it. Unfortunately it is a bit of a resource hog and if you don't have a decent specced PC it will make it run veeeeeery slow.

My system is a bit ancient, it uses a AMD athlon 2600 processor, it's about 10 years old at the very least, I've had me moneys worth out of it, but without kasper it flies, so leaving it like that at the mo, will try the free ones suggested above, thanks for all the kind advice, it's very much appreciated as compys a mystery to me!!

Managed to get kasper a lot better, changed settings for trusted programmes, but taking between 5-11 HOURS to do a full scan, surely that can't be right ?
