Default IE problem

my internet explorer has gone into ming mong mode, and is not showing any thumbnails, graphics, buttons, etc. the only thing i have done on my computer which i think could have caused this is unistalled firefox (it was my default browser previously if this makes any difference) and carried a disk cleanup out, here is a screenshot of what i mean,

anyone tell me whats wrong and how to sort it, cheers.
