You can unscrew the whole board lucky and replace it but does anyone know where you could get one from in the UK?! I've mailed maxtors tech help but knowing them will take ages to get a reply
Aint fussed bout the HD itself its the 80odd GB of stuff on it i need to get hold of

Yea thats what i was thinkin, got a reply saying they dont sell the boards anyway, but if get the same drive then technically it should work althou would invalidate warrenty blah blah, no shit
I think, the easiest way around this, is to "aquire" another drive. E-bay might be the best shot, but it will have to be exactly the same drive. How do you know it's one of the chip's that's at fault ?

Cos i could smell burning and looking on the baord u can see where it burnt out
I ordered a brand new one of the same drive, fitted the board and it detects it but no joy
My only hope is its just the boot sector or something damaged so need to try a data recovery prog too see if the stuffs still there or gone, anyone know of any decent programs i can use?!?!?!?!?!
