Default Windows XP

Trying to install Windows XP Home over windows 98 (so running an upgrade) entered the key in (from a key generator ) and later on in the install it asked for a key again! would this be the same key I entered earlier or another one? (i didnt write down the first key i used!)

could be a different one - if its a software key activated version of xp home upgrade. best bet would be to buy a new hard disk 45 quid gets u a new 120 gig one, and get a blobby copy of xp pro that is not software key activated. there are lots of these knocking about and there are lots of serial number generators which will even allow the install of sp 1 and 2 with no probs.

once all installed, undo your cd drive and plug you rold hdd in and drag and drop the my docs across in windows explorer.

The key generator you have used works only for fresh installs, I personally would format the drive and do a fresh install rather then an overlay.

bugger and arse entered a valid key which was fine so the install started installed devices etc, then when it starts installing windows the window pops up again asking to enter the "volume license product key"

surely this is what i have already entered? but that dont work and any others I generate dotn work either!

any ideas? anyone now other key generators?

The problem is, is that you can enter any key from the keygen on the 1st time, but you can't use the same or another keygen'd one when it reboots, it's something thay put in the program, like the service pack one update

As for XP with service pack 2 on it, i've not got it yet, xp with service pack one does me fine at the mo
