Default PC now wont even boot up

new problem that came out of no where

desktop PC now wont even boot up properly

the machine switches on but does not make any boot up beeps

the monitor just sits there blank with the power indicator flashing

just bought a brand new PSU and this made no difference

have switched the PCI-E graphics card out to another machine and it works fine in that

also put the graphics card into second PCI-E slot and still no difference...

home built pc and has worked fine for 20 months without missing a beat then all of a sudden...

No POST beeps generally means CPU failure. I have experianced it to be the motherbord that's failure, and twice now both componants. I'd start at the cpu first and buy it from somewhere where you can get it refunded / exchanged in case it's the board.

motherboard is a GIGABYTE GA- M57SLI-S4

one thing that does happen on boot, is the fan on the graphics card goes into high speed mode. must be a fail safe cooling mode if not enough power to it or no boot sequence?!

Memory related I would say although normally you would get 3 beeps, try taking each module of memory out (if you have multiple modules) make sure the module and the slot on the motherboard are clean and dust free and re insert.

Yea will defo be one if three. As has been said Ram error does usually give a few beeps then no display. But i have known it not to give the beeps before.

Ive also come across the same problem and it was the graphics card. But you have said you had tried yours in another machine so rules that out.

tried taking out memory and re-inserting

also removed 12v battery to clear CMOS, both have made no difference

still no beeps at all

very strange indeed as the machine has not burnt out anywhere or made funny noises or any warning signs!

is that possible..?!

In that case I would say the motherboard. If it was the processor you should get something. Do the Power LED and HDD lights work?

I would not buy anything just until you are certain of the faulty component I have had customers do this before only to find something else was at fault.

i would say processor or mainboard.

unplug everything from the mainboard apart from 1 module of ram and the processor.

so unplug any cd devices, extra ram, e.t.c and try to boot eliminate everything you can before purchasing anything.

norm if theres beeps (depending on how many there are) will norm indicate memory, ide cable wrong way round or somthing along those lines.

do you have a mate with the same socket athlon (doesnt have to be same speed - as long as socket is the same your ok) and test that. If it boots its a faulty processor. If it doesnt boot its the mobo!

ok thanks, no beeps and no POST screen

its obviously not getting that far, and without a spare mobo or cpu things are going to come to a halt

I would say processor failure more than motherboard failure now.
