Default Laptop wireless speed slow....

Thanks to Daveyboy, I finally have a laptop to play with when I am being lazy and loafing on the sofa or soaking up some sun in the garden

So far it's been fine - only problem is the wireless speed seems to be very slow!

When I hovver over the wireless connection it says what it's connected to and signal strength is very good, yet says speed is 11.0Mbps - when my wireless router is outputting 54Mbps, and my line is 2meg....

How comes it so slow? Anything I can do to speed it up?

Internal wifi module is "Intel(R) PRO/wireless LAN 2100 3A mini PCI adapter", checked in device manager that the drivers are all upto date, and they are....

Any idea's?

EDIT - think I may have found the answer myself. Looks like the 2100 3a card is 802.11b spec which is limited to 11Mbps, whilst 802.11g cards are 54Mbps. My wireless router works with both, so from that point it's fine, just means I have a slow wifi card i nthe lappy

Nevermind..... Best not download anything on it. Just a bit frustrating when it takes several minutes to log into Gmail

No idea what that means But it's pointless if 802.11b is only capable of 11.0Mbps tho, as it will only ever run at that speed. What I need to find out is if it's a) easy and b) cost effective to change the internal mini PCI wifi card to an 802.11g spec card to get 54Mbps....

Looks like this could be the answer;

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-DELL-Mini-...d=p3286.c0.m14

802.11g spec, speed limit of 54Mbps.... £23 tho
