I could see that coming in Thrush's thread
Mine isnt over clocked, used to game a fair bit but got abit bored lately and more important things to save my cash for(recently the Golf).so the pc is lagging behind abit and could do with some updates in the near future.
Still into my pc's though so ill be watching and commenting

cheers, like i said its the old set up (it died so its been boxed up used for spares) so the new one will only have those screens, everything else will be different so i'll wack up some pics when its done.
and that keybourd is older then time itself lol so i'll be looking for a new one but unsure which to go for?
new build will defo be q6600 which i'm aiming to clock to 3ghz, 2 gig ddr2 ram which i already have, motherbourd i'm still umming and arring over but looks like its gunna be a p35 chipset as going x38 seems a bit pointless unless your running crossfire, graphics cards the front runner seems to be the ati 3870, mainly due to wanting to run the 3rd screen and driver issues i've also read alot that these cards "look" better for games, how true this is i couldnt say but as theyre Ł40-50 cheaper then the nvidia cards and better spec'd i think i could live with the 15-20% lower benchmark scores they get compared to the nvidias.
it should all be sitting pretty in one of these

Just had a look on toms hardware and the 8800GT performs alot better with higher resolutions.............
Not sure on prices though i havent checked.
You cant go wrong with a Q6600 GO stepping, its just picking the right graphics card.
EDIT just had a look on Ebuyer, your looking at 138 quid for a 3870 512mb, and about 150 quid for an 8800GT 512MB.

if i was going to stick with a single card i'd go nvidia as u say they perform much better on the benchmarks but there dual set ups are just poor.
bringing the thread back on topic, anyone had a go at clocking the nvidias or the ati's?
also anyone had a go with watercooling? i know eagle was having thoughts?

hi guys,
i see you are all talking about 8800gt's and clocking your cpu's.
also, i see you guys are after decent keyboards and mice too.
firstly, a little bit about overclocking the q6600 :
1) do not use the oem cooler to o.c with.
buy an artic cooling freezer 7 pro or any of asus' latest coolers.
i have the asus artic square , its pretty good.
2) if you dont have a GO model , dont push the cpu too far.
3.2 ghz max ! ok people ! 3.0 ghz is the sweet spot for performance vs heat.
3) linked and snyc'd memory here guys.
the q6600 is a 1066 mhz fsb.
link and snyc your memory to 533mhz.
to achieve the 3.0 ghz figure on your cpu just change the fsb.
type in the figure 333 ( it was 266 mhz ) and thats 3.0ghz.
4) always check the voltage on the cpu.
a good all round figure for 3.0ghz is as follows :
vcore ( cpu voltage ) 1.35v
memory ( depends what mem u have ) but 1.8v is fine.
fsb is 1.4v
spp is 1.35v
mcp auto
ht auto.
as for keyboards and mice :
1) a keyboard is a keyboard guys.
wether its a razer tarantuala or a piece o carp from maplin they
all do the same thing. buy a keyboard for its looks only,
or buy one that'll suit the colour or theme your pc has.
2) mice are a bugger !
so many to choose from . so many pieces of carp out there too.
and that includes the top of the so called range mice also.
buy a mouse for comfort , first and foremost.
second thing to think of is how well it performs ( accuracy ).
and thats it.
i have a razer copperhead ( lazer is good, but uncomfortable for my hand ) , a logitech
mx518 ( good all rounder , but a bit on the large side ) , a cyber snipa mouse ( most comfortable mouse ever but the lazer is absolute moo poo ).
so what do i use?
a dell mouse, thats made by logitech , that has the same optics as the mx518.
and its the best mouse i have ever used. perfect for counter strike , and it can take a hell of alot of abuse also.
only thing i can tell you guys, dell have 3 different types of the same mouse i have.
the shell looks exactly the same, it has the same buttons, it has the same dimensions.
the difference is, logitech make one of the 3 types, and this is the best version.
i have 12 of these mice as they are hard to find now.
i ordered them from good old usa.
the code of the logitech made dell mouse is : OC 8639
if you want to order any. they cheap as chips and better than any mouse i have used to date.

Dave ive been using a Logitech MX1000 for about 7months now, its fantastic in everyway.
Wireless, lazer, rechargable so no batteries to arse around with or keep buying, and its good for big hands and is really comfortable, not expensive either

you have been busy there stu, Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P motherboard the one i'm looking at so its interesting to see its clocked really well! did you update and flash the bios on it?
i'd personally be happy with that clock and begin testing it for stability, as i think once you start edging toward 3.2ghz things start to become unstable.
get yourself a copy of bf2 and joing the fight! lol

I only run an e6300, overclocked to 2.8ghz on both cores.
I havent found any game slowdown because of this yet, hence im waiting for q6600 to drop even lower.
i do need a new gfx tho.
i went from x1950 xt 256 (awesome card) to 8800 GTX (overkill) to x1950 pro 256 (runs bf2 on high but a bit sluggish for sniping on dragon island)
So think ill get a 3870 pro next

Jesus soooo close
You can do it
If you want a good little programme for checking ALL your pc temps i use this http://filehippo.com/download_everest_home/
Much easier to see all your temps in one programme rather than having to open 2-3 separate ones for cpu/gpu etc it also tells you basically everything about your pc.

asus hyper drive ?????
on a serious note, thats one hell of a 3d mark score. well done fella !!!
on another more serious note, by no means what so ever should you use a windows based program for overclocking your cpu.
make all your changes in the bios. it'll end in tears if you dont do this.
im all for o.c'ing the cpu and the gpu, but dont get carried away by a 3d mark score.
what you should be after is perfect stability and smooth running games on your rig.
i could go the 3.6 ghz route for my q6600 , but i just wont do it.
if i can get crysis , bioshock , gears of war to work on my 22" screen and have it running well i wont push the boundaries.
its not worth it. that set up that your so proud of right now can easily be damaged by
pushing things too far.
note : do not use nvidia ntune. ever ever ever. its really screws up your system.
cpu clocking = bios only
gpu clocking = riva tuner
never use ntune. you have been warned.

Someone just built a new system in a pc forum i visit, but hasnt got a new graphics card yet
Shows you need a decent graphics card to get a good score
And heres the world record i believe

just found a handy tool on filehippo
What is it?
The Update Checker will scan your computer for installed software, check the versions and then send this information to filehippo.com to see if there are any newer releases. These are then neatly displayed in your browser for you to download.

i need 11 updates

Its a feature on the built in 8800GT overclocking software. It all seems to work well enough but i will try Riva Tuner too.
Agreed, BIOS only for me.
I left Prime 95 running all night with that last setup and all was well this morning with nop errors reported and only 56 degrees on teh CPU too.
Understood, been doing this since the Pentium 133 with MX instructions, and thankfully. (Luckily?) never killed one yet.
