right, been looking at a cheap ish laptop to take to college, and i have seem these refurbed ones (as you get a wank spec on new ones for less that 300). What do you reckon to them?
Phillips one:

what do you think? Phillips one looks the better deal for me but wanted a second opinion

yes because anything much less then they will be just as bad as the college PC's anyway, plus I plan on staying at college for a couple of years so will keep it a while. Also, if its not capable then it will piss me off and i will never use it

problem is start going any lower and they all have celerons or pentium 4's, which is more important than the ram. Plus it needs some capability so i can use the college's network for other tasks

its not a philips. its a cheap shit thing with a philips badge on. A customer of mine bought one of these off his own back, and phoned philips for support on it as the screen was flickering, he got referred to some place in hong kong who speak terrible english and were no help whatsoever. ended up junking the think 6 months later as Philips nor PC World wanted anything to do with it

Dont buy from PC World on principal - theyre a bunch of useless cunts who will sell you a bag of shite

Have a look on Misco, ebuyer, or the dell outlet store. If you cant stretch your budget to an HP, try an Acer or Toshiba. http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/ are also worth a look

Try to avoid Celeron or AMD chips too - avoid Vista too, even basic will run like shit on a entry level laptop (i personally wont touch it at all)
