Default Blonde question

Ok, silly question alert!

I have a socket AN2 mobo with an AMD athlon 5200+ dual core processor. The new Phenom quad core processors have caught my eye, but i want to be sure they will work with my motherboard? They are socket AN2 so i see no reason they won't work?

AM2 chap, you have an AM2 motherboard

And yes the Phenom should work on your motherboard according to this site http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phenom_(processor)

Ive got the Athlon 64 4200 x2, had it over a year, unfortunatly for me though ive got the older socket 939 so ill have to upgrade motherboard aswell as processor sometime soon

be wanred, you may have to flash and upgrade your bios to run the quad and even then theres no garantee of it running smoothly with that chipset.

best to do some research and find out if the chips been tested with your bourd, as ALOT of bourds say there compatable but wont actually run quads very well.

Get it and try, if it doesnt buy a motherboard that WILL support it? end of the day if you want the processor thats what you'll have to do unless you upgrade to the 6000x2 or something which wouldnt be that much of a jump in performance.

oh right well ive just been looking on the net for 15mins and i cant see anywhere that says your mobo supports the Phenom hmmm, maybe you could get in touch with Abit and then hear it straight from the horses mouth?

If it doesnt support it theres always this bad boy which it WILL support http://www.ebuyer.com/product/132142...roduct_reviews

an abit board dont trust abit even if they say it will run the quad! i bought a abit board that claimed it supported quad with the intentions of upgrading when they got cheaper.

after doing research on the abit forums, it became apparent that the chipset (975x) was just to outdated to support the quad stabaly

get yourself over to the abit forums and do a search for your board and find out if anyones tested a quad on it.
the guys on there are very good and do alot of real testing on the abit products
