Default Windows 2000/98 installation

Can anyone point me in the right direction re installation of a windows operating system.

I can instal XP Home and have a disc but dont have a licence - I know you can get round these but I want to stay legal. On 2 older PC's that have a Windows 98 and Windows 2000 licence code attached, how do i reinstall the O/S?

I can get hold of a 98 O/S and possibly 2000 or ME and have heard about people creating boot discs and I did find a site that allows you to download them but I am still not sure what to do?

Do you just bung in the floppy and CD O/S and tell it to first boot from floppy?

Any help appreciated.

Ash

you dont want to install 98 or 2000 mate, there isnt even any support from microsoft for them now so your pc will be wide open to threats

Buy xp brand new for 50-60 quid

hello there

well, the legal way around it to buy a license.

so to the win 2000 install

You gone install that one, forget about win 98 and win ME.

Do you have a win 2000 install cd?

all you have to do then is to put the cd in the cd driver and hit any key on your key board.
then its going to start up.

then its gone ask some questions.

install windows
repair/fix windows
reinstall windows

ect ect

you are gone chose install windows

then its coming up a license agreement, hit F8

just have to think here for a sec...

you gone stand

delete all partisons
make new partison or some thing like that..

you are gone chose the one that says delete all existing partisons

then its gone ask if you are sure

dont remember this one

its gone hit some letter... S or R or B or D something then enter.
just chose that letter that says delete everything!

then you have to make 1 partison
hit the letter P then just "enter"

then its going to ask you hoe you want to delete/format the Partison/HDD

you are gone chose the one that says NTFS(fast or something)

then its just basic hitting next when it starts, remember to update!

usually the cd should boot automatic on win 2000

but if it dont you have to do this

when you turn on you computer

you have to go in to BIOS

hitting (depends on your mother board)
F2,F8,F10,F12 or delete button

then when you are there, you have to use the arrows to fin where it stands boot

then you have too find boot order or something similar.
then chose the cd rom over the hdd

explained with pics here

https://passionford.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=269913

then when that is OK, hit F10

then if it aint starting then either.

then you need a boot cd

then i would recommend

hope some was helpfully

Windows 98 can be reinstalled fairly easily, go into the control panel, then add remove programs, then I believe there is a startup disk tab, click that, insert a blank floppy and click on create disk. This then creates the boot floppy. Insert floppy disk and power on, insert windows 98 cd-rom. It will ask if you want to start with or without cd-rom support, with cd-rom support is neccessary, it will leave you at an a: promt, simply change to cd-rom drive d: by default, type in cd win98 and press enter then type setup and proceed through setup. Or, if no floppy disks, enter bios on bootup, DEL key or F8

Then enter through to advanced cmos setup

And then change the boot sequence to cd-rom.

Apply changes and restart.

Windows ME can be done in a similar way, except the cd-rom is not bootable, so either boot off the windows 98 floppy and navigate again to the cd-rom drive, I think it's cd win me then type setup.

Windows 2000 / XP cd's are all bootable and setup runs automatically so just follow it through, my sticky at the top of this room may help.
