Default Itunes problem

Don't know what has changed but now, if I play a CD using Itunes it skips and crackles like an old record, and (even worse) if I try to import the CD I get all the crap along with the songs.

Playing the same CD using real player or Windows media it works fine and even playing tracks previously in my Itunes library is fine so I'm confident my hardware is OK.

I've been to the Itunes website for help and checked all my settings, then downloaded and installed fresh copies of both Quicktime and Itunes and rebooted but it's still doing this.

Any ideas? I want to put some new music on my ipod before my hols!!!

Yes.

Tracks I had previously imported from CD play fine in iTunes but trying to make a new import is just shit.

If I play the same CD on the same computer but using Media Player etc, it plays fine, so nothing wrong with my CDs hardware or computer, just iTunes.

I've updated all the drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and Quicktime (again) and am at the point of giving up because it just shouldn't be this hard to load some tunes for my holidays.
