how long do these take? mine been doing it since 5.30

Does take a while mate.

what size HDD you got? and using windows defrag i guess?

Depends on the system spec, and the hard drive, and when it was last done lol.

Sometimes a disk defragmenter will constantly restart if something keeps writing to the disk or using it.... booting into safe mode can resolve this issue quickly without disabling things

Note,

When running defrag in safe mode, still turn off the screensaver
