Download Google Toolbar and install. Not only do you get a pop up blocker (and a good one at that), but you can also search for stuff directly from it

as above, just installing the newest version of firefox will sort your problem, but get the adblock extension via mozilla's site for even more protection agianst the dreaded pop ups
