Default Wireless question

I was just browsing wanadoo's website lastweek when i realised i was entitled to have there "Livebox" free, basically a wireless modem.

Thing is my computer doesnt have a wireless card(or whatever you call them?) BUT it says you can still connect it with wires via this ethernet cable they supply, but would i be seeing any advantages using this with a wire than i would by using my adsl modem? i cant see any point connecting this up to my pc with a wire, mayaswell just stick with my adsl modem? unless there are benifits using this(other than connecting to a pc/laptop wirelessly)? i dout it would be any faster than my adsl modem would it as my line speed wont change if i use this livebox

Any help/advice lads

Basically, if it's the same as what Tony Turbo's got You bin your ADSL modem, and they supply you with a cable modem / wireless router in one. Basically, the ethernet cable goes into an ethernet socket on your pc (most motherboards have them near the usb sockets, depending on machine), and then into the modem. Thus giving you consistant and slightly faster connection. You then setup the wireless network, and connect laptop's etc to it.

Just a couple of things, ive got no icon in the task bar telling me if im connected to the net or not and what speed it is? i used to have it when i had the ADSL modem installed?

Also what is my internet classed as now? on the speed check website i called it ethernet as thats how im connected at the moment? is that right?

Go into the control panel, then nextork connections, you'll see the network connection there. Right click on it, left click on properties and there's a tick box to show icon when connected

It's classed as cable. Best test, download something off microsoft

What speed broadband have you got ?
