Default Another question lol, loading xp

Right I've just bought another computer (2 in the last two weeks) anyway this ones for business and the people who owned it before me put it on windows 98 as thats what the rest of their network was on and it won't read my copy xp disc or any copied discs.

It read the disc for my printer but I don't have the origional xp disc.

How can I get round this?

Thanks.

Wich hard drive have you tried to install xp one the in it, or one of your own?

The one in it... look at the back of the hard drive & take the little pin out where there is 8 pins should be a little 2 pin connected take that out then boot it with xp disk in

CORRECT IF IM WRONG lol

What you'll need to do, is go into the bios "press del or f2 for setup" on power on. Then, there should be an option for boot options, what you need to do is change the 1st boot device to cd-rom, apply changes and restart, insert 1 xp disc, it should read, then say press any key to boot from cd, and the xp setup will begin.

The computer came with xp in the first place but was scrubbed because the network was on 98.

It will fucking teach me never to buy a second hand thing again this. The first time I buy anything second hand electronic it fucks up.

Thanks for the help anyway mate I wil try another xp disc.

Regardless of running a network on 98 or not, the bootup sequence should appear as the same, the only differance being is that you'll ideally want to format it in NTFS file system and not fat 32 for win 95, 98 and ME

Lol, when you go through the setup process, it will ask you to format the drive, and in either ntfs or fat32. You'll see it when it comes up

right what a fucking day, got a new xp disc a few days ago, tried to load up, same thing happened, 2 hours i tried, bloody thing still didn't work

then a solution came across to all my problems, enter shane one of my best mates from school, he suggested that we have a game of "throw the monitor into the bin out of a 3 story house" all went well i got it in the bin, then some daft old biddie walks straight in front of my house when i'm throwing the hard drive out, it's down a private drive ffs, nearly hit her and she calls the fuzz i ended up getting off and the police ended up having to ask me if i wanted to take further actions about her trespassing on private land with gates and fences round and warnings about trespassing
at that shane was nearly on the floor crying with laughter

we were absalutely pissing ourselves when the old woman told the fuzz she was going to get her son to come round and "give us a good hiding"

anyway cheers dan, for the help regarding the computer it was much, much appreciated

just got wireless modem so i'm sure i'll keep you occupied anyways
