A tv tuner card for a start, normally you just plug your ariel into it to get tv, not sure how to connect sky to it, I'm sure google will help with that, you'll obviously need some video recording software, there should be some bundled with the card.

Thanks Dan,

Ive got a couple of video capturing software for my camcorder (digital), will that be ok?

Any recommendations on a cheapish capture card?

Anything to avoid?

That should be ok, depending on what format it supports. Have a look on www.ebuyer.com for tv tuner card's, you'll need a fairly decent one to do what you want it to.

Hauppauge do a nice range of TV cards. this will come with the software you need too.

For capturing sky of any decent quality you want to use the Svideo port on the TV card. Its doubtful your sky box has an svideo out so you would need an RGB To Svideo converter box. You basically take the scart lead from your sky box and plug into this little converter box. Then that gives you an output to svideo which you connect to your tv card - this is what I do to watch NTL cable on my Media Center PC.

You can get the converter boxes on ebay for about £30.
