Fully restored with a “no expense spared” build in 2009 and done next to no miles since (around 600). This car is a complete one off and you would need to spend in the region of £50k+ to build one to this specification (professionally built by Ian at the RS Centre). I have seen Mk1 Escorts with Cosworth engines advertised for sale in the past but none of them have anywhere near this spec. If you wanted to buy just the gearbox with the Quaife gearkit, the work that has gone into the box alone would be upwards of £10k. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Quaife-Fo...wAAOSwZQRYgiZ3
It was live mapped by Tommy Field Motorsport and has since been recently completely re-checked at Motorsport Developments Blackpool (MSD) by Stu and his team and is running a very healthy (and safe) 422bhp at the flywheel at 24psi of boost (dyno graphs to prove). This car is built to take 500+ and will do so with a tweak of the boost controller and a larger downpipe and exhaust. I believe in building cars to accept high power but not running them at silly power just for pub talk, safety is key. At the end of the day this car is under a tonne and reliably running well over 400bhp – it is plenty quick enough and now wants for nothing.
Motorsport Developments health check
When I bought the car I had no idea of its mechanical condition other than what I could see and what the previous owner told me. He was very honest about the car and told me of the issues he believed it had. But as with any purchase of this nature, I was sceptical. So I took it to Motorsport Developments in Blackpool. The car was given a full health check at MSD on 7th July 2017, this consisted of:
- Full fluid check
- Full diagnosis of every sensor output data and wiring voltages
- Cam timing checks
- Boost pressure test
- Spark plug change to Denso IK27
- Premium battery change to Lucas 540 CCA
- Charging voltages checked
- Changed Anti Lag air bypass valve
- Full underside spanner check
- Dyno cell – Knock monitoring/ temp & AFR checks
Compression check:
Cylinder 1 = 135psi
Cylinder 2 = 140psi
Cylinder 3 = 137psi
Cylinder 4 = 134psi
The Compression test results give a respectable (6psi) 4.2% variance across cylinders.
This is a low comp build; built to take high boost.
Issues noted were:
- Erroneous fan switch – New switch fitted
- Slow to start/would not start – New battery fitted
- Several boost leaks – 6 new jubilee clips fitted
- Air Injector system failed open – Turbosmart Boost Tee fitted
- Alternator not producing enough voltage at high RPM – Alternator rebuild & upgrade to 90amp unit.
- ISCV sticking – Replacement OEM weber unit fitted
- Blue smoke on over run – Crankcase breather return from turbo to sump was gunked up causing a blockage.
- Very slight lean condition (12.1:1) at top of rev range – Caused by alternator switching out when on boost at high RPM, fixed by full alternator rebuild & upgrade to proper 90amp unit.
- Rear diff bush destroyed – new nylon bush fitted.
The full report is available upon viewing of the vehicle, all issues are now resolved and the car is now 100%.

NEGATIVES
There aren’t many really! I have fixed everything and this car is absolutely 100% ready to go.
Small (sub 5p) dint on top of o/s front wing which also has a small amount of lacquer peel.
The only minor point to note is that if you wanted to run more boost a 3” down pipe and exhaust would be required. 24psi was the safest that MSD wanted to take this car too with the current 2.5” exhaust set up & to run more boost you would need a 3” exhaust/downpipe set up from the turbo back. However as you can imagine it is plenty fast enough as it is with around 450bhp/tonne.
The wheels are probably too big for the original Mk1 look. However the wheels are the only things that will go over the brakes, if you want to lose the wheels you will have to lose the (330mm/300mm) brakes.
Bonnet has to be held up by my trusty broom handle!
Bonnet release is also not on a cable, the mechanism needs properly fitting.
This car is clean and tidy and 99% rust free but it is not a concourse show car, it was built to go quickly, bearing in mind that this car is now 43 years old and is highly modified.
CONCLUSION
The car has just flown through an MOT, it drives straight and true, and is very stable at speed. The brakes are very strong and have a progressive feel through the pedal. It brakes in a straight line and all tyre wear is even. For a highly modified car like this it behaves very well in traffic due to the custom hydraulically assisted clutch, even the ‘box is smooth. It is relatively docile at low speeds and easy to control with the electronically assisted power steering. However, when on boost it is a different animal – the car behaves like an 80’s Touring car as it comes alive. It is difficult to concentrate on anything other than the huge turbo spooling and surging you along. The car has lots of grip in the bends with the 4WD system and sticks very well. It inspires lots of confidence when driven quickly due to a great amount of feedback the car gives.
The car has been looked after and pampered by me and never taken out in the wet. It is always dry stored and has never seen water in my ownership apart from being washed. I have had lots of quick cars in the past and as I am an avid petrolhead I treat my cars with the upmost mechanical respect and care. It is warmed up and cooled down correctly before and after any enthusiastic use. I pride myself on pursuing mechanical perfection without any expense spared (much to the displeasure of my wife).
This car also attracts a lot of attention when you are out and about, it is fairly impossible to go unnoticed and I don’t think I have been out in it without people stopping and asking me about it or getting out of their cars to take pictures etc! It has a fair presence on the road. Everyone loves it.
BORING BIT
No test pilots please and proof of insurance to be provided if you would like to test drive. I would advise people that are interested in buying the car to come and view it first. Apologies to all the genuine people out there but I do not want to entertain time wasters.
Viewings welcome. If you have any questions please call me (Ash) on 07852301089, but please note that I do not always have access to my mobile. If you cannot get through to me please leave a message and I will call you back. If you got this far - thanks for reading!
The car is advertised elsewhere so may be removed at any time.
Also I hate to have to do this but timewasters do not bother asking me stupid questions, as you can see from my thorough description above I know what the car is worth and this is a CASH ONLY SALE, NO SWAPS OR OVERSEAS BUYERS Please do not bother contacting me unless you have intention to buy, apologies to the honest people but we all know what selling this kind of thing can be like.

It is great value and it pains me to sell it but I need to release money asap for a new business venture and this is the only sensible option
Time for someone else to enjoy & pamper her as much as I have.

I read through the advert and was quite surprised at the price, it seems a bit under priced in all honesty.

This is a cracking car and will make the lucky new owner very happy, I could probably hold out for more money but I have more pressing matters at hand at the moment and cash is king.
I have had my fun, its time for her to change hands.
