Default Mk1 Focus Zetec Turbo - 5 Door

I'm considering selling my 5 door zetec turbo which I have owned for just over 10 years now. I'm in no rush to sell and think it is a bargain price considering what has been spent over the years. There are a few bits that need sorting on the body work (small scuff on the rear bumper) and where the rear door (both rear doors brand new under warranty 3 years ago) was hit in a work car park, the slam panel is rusted in parts (have a brand new unpainted genuine one in the garage) the bonnet edges is the same and I have a replacement for that the needs pain too. The price reflects these parts needing doing as I would want more if I sort them and they aren't all that bad but I want to be honest.

The car is not show standard in my opinion but the paint work is in good condition and besides the door dent has never been resprayed or involved in an accident. I am the second owner and I purchased the car with 6000 miles on the clock. The engine is built to take more power than the car has (around 300bhp & 325lb/ft. torque) with the turbo being the limiting factor. This turbo was a brand new refurbished item from CR Turbos around 20k miles ago and is at it's peak efficiency (18 psi) for my engine. The car would only need a change of turbo and remap for more power as the fuel pump and injectors are good for 400+. The wheels are all straight and true but would benefit from a respray.

The car has had a fortune spent on it over the years and I have a folder with all receipts in it still. The car has covered 83,000 miles throughout it's life with only a couple of thousand being in the last year with me being overseas with work. The oil has been changed every 6000 miles with fully synthetic 5w40 oil. The air con radiator has just been replaced as the fins were coming out and the systems gassed and serviced. Mechanically the car is sound and passed the MOT in October without any issues at all. The engine was converted with a complete new replacement at 26k and had a rebuild after an oil pump failure due to running an un-dampened alloy under drive pulley at around 60k (will check 100% on the mileage) The engine had a complete rebuild to make sure no metal from the pump had gone around the engine (it hadn't) and it was fully balanced and rebuilt with new genuine crank pulleys, gaskets, cam belt tensioners at a cost of over £2k and has been trouble free ever since. Also the mileage is mainly motorway miles with me working down south over it's life time.

The current spec of the car is as follows (I will add bits to the advert as they come in to my mind but feel free to ask any questions)

Model: 2 Litre Zetec ESP 5 Door Turbo

Engine: Garrett GT28R (GT2560R) roller bearing turbo, Aquamist ERL water injection, Area Six ported and polished cylinder head with up-rated valve springs, Piper turbo grind inlet cam, Area Six turbo exhaust cam, Arrow Focus Cosworth WRC ‘I’ beam shortened steel connecting rods with ARP bolts, Arias 86mm forged pistons, Webber Marelli 2.5 bar MAP sensor, Focus RS radiator and fans, front mounted intercooler, Will Pedley Racing oil breather block, AH Fabrications oil breather kit with in built breather filter, Focus RS fuel rail, RS fuel pump, Siemens fuel injectors and RS spark plugs, Panther black rocker cover, standard spark plug leads, Roose Motorsport breather hose, Samco blue silicone boost & coolant hoses, braided turbo coolant & breather hoses, AH Fabrications alloy pipe work from intercooler to throttle body, K&N Group A cone filter with splash proof cover, Focus Central cam gear pulleys, Tour-De-Force EC1 engine management, Focus RS dip stick (powder coated black), RS water pump, RS oil breather, Carbontec shop carbon fibre spark plug cover & carbon fibre cam belt cover, custom shortened battery box, Pro Alloy stealth header tank, Pro alloy stealth water injection tank with Powerflex bushes, Mirage stainless steel power steering cover (powder coated black), Auto specialists stainless steel bulk head cover (powder coated black), engine lifters & coil pack bracket, Redline tuning bonnet lifters, AP racing custom organic clutch. Engine balanced by Autosprint Birmingham.
Suspension/Brakes: AP Racing 4 pot (CP5200) front callipers with Ferodo DS2500 pads & AP Racing two piece front discs (330mm) and ST170 rear brakes (285mm), Puma 10mm rear hub spacers, Goodridge braided brake lines and Dot 5.1 brake fluid, Eibach front and rear anti roll bars, Focus RS rear drop link bushes, AP Sportfahrwerke Coilovers (front & rear), Powerflex bushes throughout.

Exhaust: Cheeseman Products custom tubular manifold (Zircotec ceramic coated black), DEI heat wrapped 3” down pipe, 3” de-cat pipe, custom 3” bore exhaust, Powerflex exhaust bushes and Trubendz 3” flexi pipe.
Exterior: ASD tuning rear spoiler, Focus collection front bumper with Focus RS mesh, Focus collection rear bumper, EGR side skirts, colour coded door handles, ST170 headlights with HID H7 bulbs, RS front grill, clear side indicators, USA spec rear light clusters, Focus ST rear wiper, left hand drive reverse light.

Interior: Focus Ghia intermittent wiper stalk, interior reading light, trip computer & cruise control, short shifter, Recaro Trend electric, heated & cooled front seats, R&B motorsport ACT gauge, Scan gauge 2 OBD II computer, Autometer sport comp boost and oil pressure gauges PLX devices wideband and liquid temperature gauges, In dash shift light, Focus ST170 foot pedals, interior door handles & hand brake lever, custom made stereo surround with 3 gauge pods.

Wheels & Tyres: Ford Focus MP3, 17” alloys with 215/40/17 Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta tyres.

ICE: JVC KD-DB52 DAB head unit and roof mounted aerial with Infinity Kappa component speakers.

I may have missed some details out on the spec sheet although it was updated in Oct 12. The car is taxed and MOT'd until Oct 13. The tyres have at least 5mm of tread all round but I will check on it to confirm. There is a full sized spare MP3 rim in the boot, under a brand new boot carpet (the old one is on top still covering it with the foam inserts)

I want £4500 for the car as is, which I think is a bargain. I know 5 doors are not to everyone’s taste but you could swap all the tasty bits to a 3 door and still not be out of pocket if you were considering a turbo engine. I also have colour coded door and boot trims unfitted that can go with the car along with any other focus associated parts in the garage.

I'm sure I will have missed loads out but fire any sensible questions my way. The car is in Ashby De La Zouch at weekends and Aldershot during the week. I am not available for boy racers to come and have a free drive, money talks as they say.

Pics of the car, mods and scuffs.

FFOC is a dead in the water club mate should have more luck here or the usual pistonheads/auto trader/ebay.

Brings back memories
I will vouch for this car not being skimped on, great sleeper or for the price it must be worth buying for the running gear.

I can't believe it hasn't either, thought the pricing was spot on for a quick sale.

The problem you're facing is that there's only a tiny market who would consider spending £4500 on what is ultimately a 2001 5-door Focus in need of paint. I know it's 'worth' that (or even more than that) as it has a superb engine and a lot going for it, but finding someone who wants to spend that is going to be tricky if I'm honest.

I'd either considered breaking it, or advertise it everywhere possible - Pistonheads, Autotrader, local free ads etc and hope that you find someone who wants such a niche car.

Dan

Thanks for the advice. I'm holding off paint at the moment as i thought it might be bought to swap in to a 3 door or other project. Breaking is an option but as i work away during the week would be a pain to do and would rely on the engine being bought for sensible money. I'm thinking Ebay but don't know how it works if someone decides they don't want it after a week or if they turn up the boost and blow the engine.
