Escort RS Turbo Series 1 – FOR SALE (Reluctantly!)
This is an advertisement for my Escort RS Turbo Custom model, which has undergone extensive restoration work to return it somewhere to its former glory!
This is a reluctant sale due to other commitments, which include two D plated Series 1’s . This car is therefore offered to a good home only.
Introduction:
I have owned the vehicle for over 3 years having dry stored it for my entire ownership, with use being restricted to show (winning a number of Car of the stand awards) and weekend use only.
The vehicle was last used two years ago and has only covered less than 2000 miles since purchase. The car has only just been revived two weeks ago following a mechanical strip down and returning it all to standard looks (with the exception of a few necessities which I will list) and standard performance. I trust that whilst this vehicle is not to concourse standard, it will interest genuine enthusiasts such as myself and those wanting a vehicle to show for the forthcoming show season.
History:
The vehicles full history I will up to update as it currently occupies a A4 lever arch folder and it’s a bit of a head ache to go through. Please therefore bare with me and I will update as I go along
It does however come with:
§ £0,000’s in receipts
§ A fully documented/photographed rebuild
§ A number of previous MOT’s
§ Substantial bills and documentation for the general maintenance and upkeep of the vehicle
§ Supplementary guides & brochures
§ Series 1 press pack
Engine/Gearbox:
The car now runs and drives following works completed as follows:
Rebuilt 1600 engine using Genuine Ford parts (shells, mains and rings), built by a Ford Mechanic (incorporating a Burton High pressure oil pump)
§ Fully Rebuilt head with slightly ported exhaust valves (Ford Cam kit)
§ New Timing belt
§ New Water pump
§ Full Ford head gasket set.
§ New oil, plugs, fluids etc
§ Series 2 turbo for improved cooling
§ New Ford Radiator
§ New Ford HT leads
The engine is superb, remarkably quiet (very refreshing to hear an S1 with a standard exhaust! ) with no rattles, bangs or smoke which is as expected from a fresh rebuild! The engine is very ‘tight’ and I will set this up for a running in period. The ECU is unchipped and benefits from the original air box to maintain a standard look. Even the original boost and water hoses are present!
The gearbox is outstanding with no whines - very tight and I installed a brand new clutch before reassembly. The car has been driven less than 1 mile since its installation!
Interior:
The interior is excellent with no rips or tears in the recaro trim. All bolsters are intact and the driver’s side has only minimal wear.
The dash excellent having only 2 (from memory!) very minor cracks from the heating vent.
In Car Entertainment
Period Radio Installed.
Also quality ICE cabling installed should stereo upgrade be installed.
Exterior:
The car was fully and extensively restored just over 3 years ago now, having had the following replacement panels:
§ Front Wings (Ford)
§ Front Panel (Ford)
§ Scuttle Panel
§ Inner Wings
§ Cross Member
§ Door Skins
§ Rear Valance
§ Repair sections to rear aches both inner and outer
§ Repair section to floor pans (as required rather than replacing all thus retaining original stamps etc)
§ Repair section to Fuel Cap
§ Repair sections to chassis rails
§ Repair sections to bulkhead, battery tray and fuse box.
Attention to detail during the rebuild of panels is excellent with the originality of seams and spot welds where applicable.

I saw this car during the rebuild and it was shocking the extent to which it was taken!
As you would expect from all this, it was given a full bare re-spray and also a fresh coat of paint to interior floors and boot area. The paint today is still fresh and dent free with only minimal stone chips en-route to shows. The finish isn’t without fault from a fussy bloke like me (but are they ever…. Even from new?!!). I.e. 1 paint drop on the scuttle.
Reassembly has involved using all new or original Ford clips and fittings where available including rivets, indicators, spot lights etc. As I am continually criticising my own cars, I think the kit could have been fitted better in 1 or 2 areas but im fussy!
Underside:
The entire underside of the car has been rust proofed and treated which is now finished in white. I regret that at the moment, it is dirty but I will endeavour to clean it up for any interested party. It does have painted suspension components (better than rust but could be better if coated!) and has a polished then lacquered fuel tank.
Suspension:
§ Standard ford springs with Koni adjustables
§ Full polybushed to maintain a tight ride and accurate and responsive cornering
Brakes:§
Cosworth 4x4 front callipers with Cosworth grooved disks for modern and confident braking feel.
§ Goodrich Stainless Steel Brake Lines
§ New copper Brake Lines
Wheels:§
Refurbished with excellent tyres.
Security:§
Toad Cat 1 with certification
I trust that following the depth of this advertisement, viewers will appreciate that I have been as honest as I can. If I have missed anything out, please feel free to ask.
Offers in the region of £4200 ono
Could be interested in RS in part exchange (RS1600i YES PLEASE!) or a VW/Audi diesel
Comments welcomed as always

Thanks lads...always difficult in describing a car with so many fanatical car boffs here!
From recollection (need to confirm both), mileage is 96k and owners is 12. However, as I mentioned in the add, the engine hasnt completed a mile since fitted 2 weekends ago This is desperately annoying because it stayed with two brothers for a while who once sold, bought it back of each other a few times but what you going to do?!!

Thanks for all those who have commented.
For those who are interested (and I understand why the question was asked ), the photographs were taken two weekends ago.
I actually posted them on the RSOC that weekend as I just got it running (and low and behold the sun was out lol )

Havent done a show in about 3 years now...personal reasons really so have had all these stored up since then.
Im making an effort to get back into the RS's for this season for sure and just finished restoring my brothers..... but some things will have to give to finance others and sadly this was one!
Might have 1 or 2 for sale again shortly!!!!
So what you up to?
