Ford Escort MK2 Grp4 Rally Car
Escort Mk2 Grp 4 16V
A project to build a Mk2 Escort for the 2005 Roger Albert Clark Rally started over 2 years ago. An exceptionally good shell was bought from RWD in Newcastle. This had been used as a road rally car and had been stored for over 10 years. The project brief was to build a car that looked as close to new as possible and strong and reliable so as to finish the rally without mechanical problems. It was decided to use only NEW parts on the car.
The shell was stripped and all underseal from the car was removed. The underneath was like a new car with no rot of any significance. A small hole on the passenger floor was plated and as small holes were appearing in the splash panels it was decided to replace these as well along with new wings and a front panel.
Spec of the car is as follows;
Shell:
Seam welded, turreted, gusseted shell with new front panel, wings, splash panels, strengthened bulk head panel (one piece), double skinned floors to passenger and drivers side, full length purpose made skidding, large gearbox tunnel. Forest Alloy arches (all alloy parts were from Ralloy). Bolt in Safety Devices cage with extra cross diagonal bars to rear, cross link from centre uprights (behind seats and link from front down bars to strut tops. Panhard rod tower (proper one) that is through the chassis rail. Doors are original and are probably the best around. Apart from an old dent to the offside rear panel (usual place for a MK2) there is NO filler in this car at all. Fiberglass bonnet with the boot lid stripped to just the outer shell. New headlamps along with new air horns, & washer bottle.
Running Gear.
Refurbished 52” Atlas Axle casing from Fostec in Newcastle. Can be converted to fully floating if required. 5 Linked with rose jointed ends to all links. 145 lb multi leaf slipper springs with bilseins (all new from Peter Lloyd). Powder coated Diff cover. Atlas to T9 Prop Shaft. New XR3i (large) callipers to rear with vented discs. 2 1/4 “ Adj Platform Bilsteins to front with on car Adj rose jointed TCA’s. Twin Cam anti roll bar. Fully adj alloy top mounts. Hi-spec 4 pots to front with vented/grooved/drilled discs to front. Quick rack and bias pedal box (All new parts from Peter Lloyd). The car is on ORIGINAL 7” Minilite wheels although these are really just for show as the tyres are SLICKS!
New tank & screw filler cap from Ralloy. Facet red top pump. Welded in Battery tray. Alloy rear fireproof insert. Full fire extinguisher system, new intercom, seats, wide belts with aircraft fastners, nav footrest, aircraft centre console with all switches to this. Although the drivers seat is fixed in, would recommend proper seat mounts to suit personal requirements as these were put in temporarily.
Engine.
Converted 16V Vauxhall engine with new lifters, SBD big end bolts, sump etc. New distributorless ign system from SBD. On 40’s (as recommended by SBD) expected to produce 180 – 200 BHP. New exh manifold and exhaust system. New quick release bell housing, clutch etc along with standard T9 gearbox (temporarily fitted). Chassis mounted engine mounts.
The car is professionally painted in Venetian Red – underneath, inside and outside and has to be one of the best around. All basic electrics have been tested and all work. New headlamps and bulbs have been fitted. Ign system needs to be hooked up but is new and boxed along with all diagrams etc. This car needs a weekends work along with a decent gearbox, diff, halfshafts, and radiator to finish.

Anyone interested in the car will find it easier to ring than pass PM's / emails / etc back and forth. Not being funny it's just I don't get on the net much, well don't get on long enough to do long replies lol, so it will save your time by ringing
Cheers for the replies

This car is amazing and I'm sure you won't be disapointted Paul.
The shell is something else and I'm sure the shell alone will be worth a fortune. I even said it was a shame to rally it and I think Adrian just looked at me like I was stupid.
From what I've eard from Bri he is a bit of a hoodlum in a car and when he had his white MK2 he properly DROVE it [/i]
