SOLD SOLD
You are bidding on my 1998 Escort GTi. Its radiant red, and has covered 82k. I’m the fourth lucky owner of this car. Its in great condition and is a very unique car, and an ex-member of the Escort GTi Owners Club.
The car has had an engine conversion just completed my myself (400 miles ago) as the old engine broke a crank pulley –so I decided to do the upgrade. The difference is amazing, the car is much nicer than when it was a 1.8. The main difference is the improved torque, you don’t have to change down to overtake, nor do you have to rev the car to gain speed from it.
The car has a lot of service history and receipts and was well loved by its last owner, and I hope I’ve carried on this tradition. I’ve also got all the service history from the Mondeo SI that donated its engine, to verify the mileage. (76,000)
I used various web sources to do the conversion and then took the car to RJM auto engineers in Glenrothes to sort out the little teething idle problems that the car was suffering from. They’ve checked the timing and replaced a few needed parts after extensive diagnosis, and relieved me of £450 for the work done. I have a receipt for this, for 400 miles ago. All the new parts were installed at this time.
Engine:
2.0 Zetec from a 97 Mondeo (136PS)
Full New Clutch Kit including thrust bearing
New Timing Belt and Tensioners (with spring modification)
New Aux Belt
New Rocker Cover gasket
New Water Pump Gasket
New Sump Gasket
New PAS Fluid
New PAS reservoir
2x New Temp senders
New ISCV
New Gearbox Speed Sensor
New Fuel Filter
New HT leads
1.8 Zetec Sump
1.8 Oil Pickup
1.8 Alternator and PAS Pump
1.8 Zetec Inlet and Exhaust Manifolds
1.8 Zetec ECU
2.0 Zetec Throttle Body
2.0 Zetec MAF
Oil and Filter Changed (semi synth 5w30 – a must for Zetecs)
Full Magnex System
K&N panel filter in drilled airbox
Power coated rocker cover to match car
Suspension:
The car handles very well, especially now I have replaced the wishbones as they take a beating with the car sitting so low. The front brace tightens the handling up a bit, as I’ve run the car without the brace I can definitely feel a difference.
H&R Coilover kit dropped 70mm (Cost £900)
Escort Cabriolet Front Strut Brace
Powerflex Bushes
New Front Wishbones with Pinch Bolts (fitted this week)
Brakes:
Recently rebuilt front calipers with new seals and anti-rattle plates.
New Rear brake pipes
New Dot4 Fluid
Interior:
I’ve upgraded the sound with an in car mp3 player, and I’ve spend a lot of money on some very expensive 6x9s, and the previous owner (an ice installer) also installed some good quality pioneer 17cm door speakers. I preferred to do this rather than install a sub in the boot, which seems a bit tacky and also heavy. However, people often do ask if I have a sub, as the bass is excellent. This is partly down to the dynamatting of the boot, which is on both the floor and inner arches.
GTi 1/2 leather
GTi White dials
Blue dash and switch illumination
Pioneer 17cm door speakers
Sony Xplod 350W 6x9s
JVC KD-891S mp3 CD player
Sparco gearknob
Sparco Pedals
Dynamatted boot.
Wheels
The wheels make this car! They’re a classic rim and I’d love to keep them. They were £160 a corner each plus tyres and are still in terrific condition – 2 have small scraped but not very noticeable. I’ve got all the centre caps, removal keys and spigot rings for the alloys.
7.5 x 17" Azev A's ET33
Front Tyres – 205/40/17 BF Goodrich – 4/5mm tread
Rear – 205/40 17 Avon ZZ3 -3mm tread.
Security
Standard GTi alarm
Also – Toad AI606 Cat 1 alarm/immobiliser with VSIB certificate. Keyfobs remotely lock/unlock car.
Exterior
The exterior has been kept simple, with the rear arches rolled to stop the Azevs rubbing. The window tints were done professionally, and are of the security style so they stop the window breaking if someone decides to put a brick through them! The front windscreen is tinted at sunstrip level. I’ve never had any problems from the police about these tints.
New Wiper Blades
Standard GTi bumpers, sideskirts and spats
Debadged
Rear arches professionally rolled
Security tints
Being an 8 year old car, there are some faults to the paintwork. There are 2 blebs in the drivers door, where it was hit in a carpark, and also a crack in the rear bumper at the nearside.
Also, both arches have signs of the paint flaking, where they Azevs have started to rub on the lip underneath. I’d recommend the new owner have this sorted before the wings show signs of corrosion – they haven’t so far.
The car is still logbooked as a 1.8, so its at your discretion to choose to declare it or not. Its got 8 months MOT and is taxed until May. I’ve got all the keys, 2 black and 1 red.
The only other fault with the car is that the temp guage currently doesn’t work. I’ve replaced all the senders, I think its an earthing problem but don’t want to go rooting about in cables. In any case the car runs fine and the thermostat cuts in as normal. Both it and the radiator are recent.
Please ask if you have any questions. I’m taking offers on the car as its advertised elsewhere. Please call me on 07719367229 if you have any questions or would like to make an offer. My email is ren_juanjo@hotmail.com and I also use MSN.
The car is located in Fife, Scotland. (KY9 1JX)
I will NOT take a PX as I’ve just bought a civic type-r.
The cherished plate is NOT included, the car will be on an R registration.
For more pics of the car, I’ve taken about 20 please see

And the price - £2500 ono!
Thanks for taking the time to look at my car!
