Default bmw help please

hey everyone hoping someone can help me out here, ive just bought a bmw 318is coupe 1994 as my run around car, the car had a slight misfire the other night for a few seconds then cleared up and ran away fine. but today the car has suddenly stopped altogether and wont start, ive checked all the vaccum hoses and pipes, cant see any splits, i checked to see if the coil was sparking and it would only give a spark at number 1 and 4 cylinders, is this the coil pack gone, any help would be great.
thanks

It's looking that way fella. If you have a search on some of the BMW forums for 'Bentley workshop manual download' it tells you in that how to test it to see if they're breaking down.

It might be worthwhile investing in a fault code reader, I've got one of them Peake ones but you can get cheaper.
