Yeah it must be rubbish. Sony are replacing them, but its a 4-5 week turn around.
There are some fixes online floating around for some of the issues although some people are having no luck with these either.
I'm wondering if it will be the same here. It depends like you say if its a particular batch that's having issues, or just random units. It also depends when they get shipped over here.
