Thing is the reason Microsoft have gone this route is due to apple. Since apple made such an impact with itunes...where you don't actually own anything....and made billions from it, you get loads of other corps thinking it's acceptable. Exactly same thing going on now with Sony charging for online play. But because xbox live was a better service, Sony will now claim as you are paying you will get a better service. So people will accept it.
Like I said, firmware can soon change drm for both consoles. Developers want as much cash as possible and if they think they will get more for their game on xbox, who are they going to concentrate on?
You look at the lack of patches released for ps3, map pack delays etc, even to walk into game or gamestation. There seem to be far more games on xbox than ps3. Xbox games were cheaper than ps3 too...especially at launch. That is what swayed me to get an xbox 360 after having ps1 and 2. Even with the added power of ps3, there was never much difference graphically between consoles....
I would really like to jump back to playstation but unless I see real support from developers, it will struggle. Same goes for Microsoft.Thing is, Microsoft appear to have that area covered as we have seen from ea,rare,Activision, cod series, even got the jump on map packs for battlefield from what I've read. I know not everyone likes cod.but its the biggest selling game period.now peeps looking to buy a new console, see map packs and extras will hit xbox first... What console will they go for?
Got carried away with my rant. Lol
You say support from developers?
Ea, Activision, Rare are not exclusive to Microsoft, (Yeah microsoft has payed out alot of money to get map packs a few days earlier. Which has happened before and I hardly think getting a map pack 48 hours earlier is a big bargaining chip)
Playstation has naughtydog, quantic dream, sucker punch... not to mention all the indie developers that have moved away from Microsoft because of their ridiculous rules and percentage cuts.
Also with developers making money from dlc, micro-transactions they will side with the console that sells the most, or do what most developers do, which is go multiplatform like ubisoft, square enix etc..
Going from the internet's reaction (reddit etc) its the Xbone that's going to struggle. Just looking at my facebook newsfeed this morning 6 of my friends have now cancelled their xbox pre-orders after that sony press conference.
Oh and no Cod game is the biggest selling game of all time, Nor is Cod as a franchise
EDIT: and before people jump on the xbox "family entertainment features" like TV etc bandwagon, look how much of that is USA only.
