Hi again,

My 2003 Focus 1.6 has no front fogs, just blanking plates. If i bought some fogs, would the wiring loom be ready to take them, and i'd just need to buy a new light switch with the front fog option?

Or would i need to wire them in myself from scratch?

 

Pretty sure the wires are there , just needs a new switch.

 

There is a good chance the wires will be there, might be taped back into a loom though. Footwell lights are another quick and cheap mod taking advantage of the loom, requiring just 2 interior bulbs and a lens.

 

Mmmm interesting, where (in the footwell) are the footwell lights usually located?

Has anyone on here done this or the front fog addition thing before?

 

Just done a bit more googling and the wiring SHOULD(!) be there - its orange apparently...just need a fuse for the leccy box in the engine bay and the light switch for the cabin...

anyone no if this works for a mk2 or if the wires are there its a lx i cant seem to find the wires for the fog light

 

Well i've had a really good look under and around the car this weekend and i really can't find the fog light wiring at all.
I've checked the chasis legs, the wiring loom where it splits off to the headlights near the radiator, but nothing.
Is it possible on a late 2003 Focus that the loom would simply not be the one i need?

I've done the footwell light conversion - they were there, but the fogs? I can't see em!

Anyone know exactly where they are or have any pictures?
I've found a guide but thats for the pre facelift MK1.

My cars a 1.6 LX - would this have been produced with a different loom to the zetec/ghia/ST etc??

 

My old V plate 1.6 LX had the wiring there for the fogs, just plugged them in and fitted a new switch. You should have the wiring! Have you removed the front bumper to look?

 

No, that was my next job, but wanted to make sure before i started on that one!

 

did you find the wire to do this? ive got a 04 lx and want to do the same, took the blanking panel off an the wires arnt in site so dont know what to do, any ideas?

 

Yes, I found out that the mk1.5 lx is not wired up for fogs as standard if they are not on the car!
Trust me, I had the bumper off, lights off, and there is no loom for the fog lights.
I did it though, but I had to make up my own wiring loom, and connected it directly to the new light switch I had to buy with the front fog switch on it...
I found a guide from a US forum, which gave a rough guide, I'll try and find it for you..

If you read through, near the end some guy from the UK sussed it.
You don't need an inline fuse. You've got to run a wire from plug 83b on the back of the new focus light switch with fog option you'll need.
Run that through the bulk head or wing into the engine bay, split off into 2 feeds, one for each light, then you'll have to solder some bulb holders to to the ends.
I used the earth points in the engine bay near the battery.

 

thats a pain in the arse that theyre not there, how much did the equipment to do it your self cost? Ive already seen the switches on ebay for around Ł15 and the lights i want for about Ł35. Im not too good with electrics so do you think this would be a costly job for a garage do (just the wires)

I think I got a switch for Ł10, wire Ł10, soldering skills Łfree, bulb holders from scrap yard with a bit of the loom, Ł5.

And that's it, dunno about garage, it took me half a day to make up and plumb in the loom, so I suppose it depends how much they charge per hour..

 

oh thats not too bad then, I'll get a quote of my mechanic anyway, hopefully wont be too pricey as hes a family friend. If so though then I'll have an attempt my self. Have you got prior electric skills or is it that straight forward to do?

 

They are, they are taped to the chassis legs as I said above, if you look underneath the car you can see, you will need an appropriate switch however.

I dont actually think my car does have them. It had been in a crash before i bought it, so when its been repaired i dont think they bothered with the wires. Ive not actually checked the chassis legs, only behind the blanking plate, but will check anyway.

 

I checked the chasis legs, they are not on the 2001 to 2005 lx focus if the car does not come with them.
It's a different loom, if you wanted to fit electric heated sets from a ghia, the wiring is there on most other models, but again, not on the lx.

 

They are, as I have seen them, 2002 model

Is yours an LX too martin? I hope i can find them because i cant be arsed with the hassle of having to put new wires in

 

Maybe I wasn't looking hard enough, but I was under it, over it, in it, checking absolutely everywhere, bumper and lights off, checked chasis legs, but nothing.
The only things I found were stuff like the air temp sensor behind the rad and stuff.
But someone else with a 2003 mk1.5 focus 1.6 lx same as mine couldn't find them either.
Maybe they all used the same loom on the 1.4 and 1.6, and a different one on the 1.8 & 2.0?

I genuinely don't think they are there on the 1.6lx.

Someone prove me wrong!

 

Can you post pictures on here? I think I might of found the wire but not sure, so wondering if someone could tell me

 

If you have, it'll be two sets of 2 wires, both with a bulb holder on (like the rear fog and reverse light)...

 

hi people im new to the world of ford cars . ive just pick't up a ford focus 1.6lx 57reg mk2 im looking to fit fog lights an foot well lights can someone help me find them. ive read the thread an abit confused i know im being blonde . but im comfused if my car will have the wiring i need ?

 

Just bought a 04 lx and what to fit fogs,the wires are not in the engine bay loom,
But,I got hold of a switch and chopped the connector of as well so I could find the missing wire and make my own loom up.
Both connectors and wires are the same on my car and the one I pinched from the other car for the switch....where will they switch wire run to ?

If I make my own loom up how will I connect it in ?
Where is the relay and fuse located so I can see if the wires are there ?

 

If it helps. I have a 2002 1.6lx that had no fogs. The wires were on the loom just taped to another wire. Drivers side they were taped to a wire near the aircon with insulating tape, passenger side they were taped up on another wire near the bumper possibly the airbag sensor?

I didnt even need to change the headlight switch, they just work on the same as the rear fog lights did. If you need the two stage where you want to be able to have just the rear, you would prob need the new switch.

Mine is one of the more basic models doesnt have electric mirrors and didnt have front fogs or mudflaps etc.

The wiring must be there. May just be taped in different places.

I have literally just walked in from doing it myself now, i signed up to help you guys seeing as i had come on here for advice before purchasing.

 

Have worked out which wire activates front fogs from the switch,got Haynes manual and it says from the switch,it runs straight to fogs,no relay or fuse needed?

Does anyone know why the wire is already in the loom at the switch end and if so where does it go to !, as I would like to use the other end for the fogs!
I've hunted high n low in engine bay for loom and cannot see it,so where does the wire go,
Are the plugs hidden in the black plastic wrap ,as they not outside it
Is there a sub loom and if so where does it connect...

My old xr3i you use to plug another loom in Mr the header tank and that ran the spot lights....

I have a 2002 Focus LX without the fog option. Just installed fogs from a breakers, including the 2 stage switch and surround for Ł20.

The fog light plugs were taped up, one above the horn and the other next to a pipe above the fog light location. The lights require two washers, a bolt and nylon nut to secure per light (I used a cable tie, does the job).

Quick and easy to do with nothing else required. The front fogs can be used with side lights or dipped beam, with the option of switching the rear on.

 

I drive a 1998 1.8LX and the wiring appears to be there...
However, the plugs I found taped to both chassis legs are quite different to the fitment apparently needed for the H1 bulbs & lamps I have.
The lamps are indeed specifically mk1 Focus front fogs, but the H1 live & earth sit at: (/|); whereas the plug sockets on my loom sit parallel: (||)

I can't seem to find one but, am I missing a connector between the two?!
