Default Cosworth conversion garage.

Hi all,

Hope I'm in the correct area of the forum but if not I'm sorry!

I currently have a Cosworth engine sat in my garage that I'm debating on what to put it in, I currently have the option of either.. a 2005 focus, a 2006 fiesta or an S2ERST shell but I'm not sure yet..

Was going to put it in my fiesta st but it's too clean to start chopping up!

I was wondering if anyone knew of what the best garage around the northwest would be that could help with the shell fabrication mainly, the tunnel and engine fitment side of things.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
Lee.

A1 rally sport do a lot of conversions. I think the fiesta cost ready to take the running gear was around £4k but you would need to do a lot of other work.

it's mainly just the shell prep for the engine and the running gear I need doing. Once the engine is bolted in and the diffs are in place I can do everything else like welding the cage in, wiring everything up ect.

will it be a case of sourcing a donor sapphire for the floor or will the tunnel be fabricated from scratch?

I'm from blackpool so there isn't many garaged around my area that can do this kind of job. will have to trailer it somewhere.

I think most use the sapphire as a donor but I believe a1 just use their own jig. My 205 was converted by Jdm Motorsport and they made it all themselves.

Mine was done in the 90's and back then you could have bought a half decent flat for the money it was reputed to have cost.

Pretty sure AG Motorsport (Scotland) will fab the shell. Think I was quoted around £2500 for a mk1 focus shell fabbed

I have emailed ag Motorsport but haven't heard anything back yet. 2500 seems a bit better! Was budgeting around 3 to 4k really but the cheaper the better.

Ignore my post then, as it was a couple years back I asked them and I'm guessing what smiley has put above is basically what you'll end up get details of.

cheers smiley
have you supplied the donor saph yourself? that would work out easier for me instead of fabricating one from scratch because I would use the engine, running gear and loom ect too.

Will keep an eye on your thread to see how it goes, going looking at a mk2 focus next week so I might be copying you! thinking of going just rwd though.

Already have a cossie engine but I might just use it for bits and get a full saph, the engine was running about 420bhp before it was pulled out.

420/500 bhp will be fun in a rwd focus me thinks!

I noticed that, there was one near me that sold for about 5k about a month ago but I wasn't sure what I was planning on doing then.. my main plan was to save my money for the new mk3 focus rs.

I will just have to keep trolling the internet and try and find one. I have the cash ready for when one comes along so it'll just be a waiting game now!

either that or just buy a sapphire shell just for the floor and buy everything else from a cosworth breakers/online since I already have an engine.

You don't need a saph shell, any sierra shell will work. Might make your search a little easier. The 4wd transfer box means minor mods to a 2wd transmission tunnel but lots of late sierras had the tunnel bulge any way.

I was swaying more for the mk2 for a while but I thought it would cost more to convert.. You talked me into it with the price you're paying. and I have a mk6 fiesta st already. Will be easier since I will only be running rwd and yes I will be looking at doing an rs lookalike! Will be fully stripped out though so won't need to mess about with the interior. Will be keeping an eye on your thread and see how your shell turns out!

I haven't yet, should be going picking a 2007 focus with a blown engine next week and when I do i'll give him a ring and sort something out.

Want to make sure I've got everything I need first because I hate getting half way through things and realising I have forgotten something!

Going to start trying to find a 2wd sapphire around too.

Not sure what colour I'm going to have it yet, thinking either the skyline blue or a sea grey. Either that or have it plasti-sprayed matte black.

I was thinking the same thing about yours! no point me building one when I can just have yours when it's done

Might get stuck a few times because I've never done something this big before so i'll be sure to bug you for help from time to time haha.

I'll be putting a few rs breakers on speed dial just in case..

This is the main reason why I am thinking it'd be better buying an entire sapphire cosworth so I can just swap everything over and know I haven't forgotten anything or have to spend ages trying to source all the little niggly bits.

Well I will have to hunt for someone to do mine now! good news about the panels though! found a scrap yard near me that has a mk2 rs that was stolen/recovered that was burnt out inside and all the windows smashed. all panels, bonnet, bumpers ect are perfect, wheels, spoiler and a few other things have been taken off and the engine has been ripped out but it has most of the things I need he's dragged the shell out of the way so I can have what I need and give him the cash for what I use. Would have used the entire shell but I don't want it coming up on a hpi as stolen/rovered though :/

glad to see you're making some progress, now it's just the waiting game for when it's done!
