Default Series 2 head gasket help!!

My S2 has blown its head gasket, I had an idea it was on its way out, now oil and water are mixing.

I'm in Hertfordshire and need to know of garages that would be trusted to do it. Presumably it can't be driven now.

I had a quote from a mate of a mates garage of £560 + VAT including a skim. He is very busy so I'm hoping he was pricing himself out of doing it.

I really don't want to do the dreaded e-bay spares or repair. Its just MOT'd and set up by OKC, was driving very well.

Its realistically a £1800 car before this, theres a bit of sunroof rust, bit on the arches but looks nice and drives well. £560 + VAT is too much.

Years ago I'd have had a go myself, but I no longer have the time and am a bit rusty so would probably balls it up.

Help, recommendations and ball park prices that I should realistically expect would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Stu

£500 quid is about the going rate for most garages to do a head gasket I would take the plunge and fit a good quality gasket like victor reinz or even cometic although the latter will set you back about £90 ,good luck
