Cams/Pulley question
Hi, iv got a 1.8 focus (zetec blacktop) and lookin at upgrading my cams.
Firstly, is it worthwhile running kent cams with std pulleys? Are is it a waste of money if not usin kent pulleys?
Also, there is two types of cams. The sport and the sport r's? Wud it be worth gettin the sport cams?

Depends what you want, I'd go for the 1st one, the latter one will be far more aggressive, not very good for std, you won't gain much if anything with a vernier pulley with the rest being std, I would just get the cam if you want.

cheers for the reply. iv got hold of the sports ones (the first ones). so it wudnt be a waste of time havin the kent cam wit std pulleys then? wud they still be able set them up so i get worthwhile gains?

It certainly wouldn't be a waste of time getting just the cam, they will only be able to set it to std setting using the std pulleys, unless they use dial gauge etc as the zetec cams are not keyed to the pulley wheels anyway, but only thing it will do is move the power around a bit, but a gain at one end will lose at the other end without mods.

If you intend on doing other mods in the future fit them, as they can be adjusted when/if needed later on.
You can also dial them each way to see if you can get any gains on the rolling road, but don't expect anything big from this, any power higher up for example is likely to be at the expense of lower down, but have a play and see what happens.
I once got a massive gain from a pinto std pulley after some numpty managed to set the cam timing TWO teeth out, luckily no damage!!
