Been hard at it with the scrapper/wire brush
All surface rust taken back to bare metal and treated with rust killer, primed with red oxide, then sealed up any seams that looked like they would hold moisture:
Then given a good coat of stone-chip ready for the top coat tomorrow:
Not goin for concours but nice solid and body coloured

Hi there. I am really liking the work you are doing on your motor. I have just acquired an Escort GTI as a project and the first thing I want to do is get it up on stands and overhaul the body work including the underneith.
Seeing as you are currently doing yours, I was hoping you could tell me what you should put on the underside of the car once you have striped it back to the metal?
Is it just a case of applying rust killer, primer, and then top coat?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Cheers
Dan

Hard work, but worth it in the end
Hi m8,I'm no expert
The more layers/coats you use the better I would think, obviously any rust needs rubbing down/treating.
I only use my car for 6 months over the summer, don't think I would bother going to the trouble of doing underside if I used it all year round
Would probably treat the rust and just use underbody sealer/wax oil etc if using through the winter
Good luck with yours, get some pics up of the progress

Looks smart! Quality colour choice aswell!
Just make sure you don't scratch it getting the bushes in now
I found the ARB link rods the hardest to get back on without damaging

Plenty of lubricant.
The way i found the easiest was to put the ARB up with the brackets and bushes, then try and fit the Links. I think i Covered the jaws of my water pump pliers in masking tape, then used those on them.
Not too hard
