Quick question is a 2wd diff the same as a 4x4 diff only reason i ask back in April 2004 Performance Ford featured a blue 2wd P100 but when i dug it out and read the feature he said he used a 4x4 set up on the rear so if it become a handful being 2wd he could convert it to 4x4 easier .Sure was a nice truck Saff side skirts fitted to he says you need 2 sets of side skirts cause of the length .Was on escos rims any one else remember it

the 2wd is 7.5" and 4x4 is 7" but i think the 4x4 ratio has more pulling power at lower end due to the ratio being diffrent .
and yep you need two sets i have mines ready to go on once i get it resprayed

You can use all the 4x4 rear end. Better arb, vented discs etc. You need to change the box, front hubs, calipers, sump and cross member. Mine is all.4x4 rear, loom, engine harness, abs (2wd abs Ecu), water pump, inlet and exhaust manifold etc but 2wd block and head. If you have a pinto p100 you can use that cross member and tca's but you might want to change the front arb.

Here is a forum post I have read that mention the changes: (I'm not a mechanic / MOT tester, just posting something I read)

http://www.edition38.com/forums/inde...owtopic=381364

TL;DR

Your car WILL need an IVA if you:
•C notch the chassis legs for driveshaft clearance
•Raise the strut tops
•Modify the floor or bulkhead
•Chop the roof off/convert to a pickup
•Cut the outer arch lip for tyre clearance/to fit a wide arch kit, as this is classed as a structural area
•Modify any part of the monocoque

Bollox, like to see them prove that on a vehicle of this age.

Whats arb mean mate ? .And it is a pinto .The more i think about it my gut feeling is to 2wd it and its handy to know about the cross member .If i go 2wd have i got every thing i need to bolt up a T5 box

Anti roll bar. Your need to lengthen a 2wd cossie prop but the from the box back will all work fine.

The front p100 arb is 2mm smaller than that from a 2wd cossie so its up to you if you want to change it. Your need to mod the brackets or revnut for either 4x4 or 2wd front arb. Im told you can buy poly bushes to work with either or but im yet to find them

look at it this way we all see modded cars at shows and you think to yourself how dose that pass an mot ? and if you think that so will the police/vosa so its all about not being silly with the mods and make sure everyone is done 100% correct at the end of the day your the one sitting in it

My perception is that cars with significant structural modifications to the chassis that may have passed a 2011 UK MOT (without IVA) may fail a 2013 UK MOT or require an IVA due to the modifications/ changes to the MOT

The MOT changes are difficult to interpret though

I reshelled my xr4x4 into a 4i, i fitted the complete 4x4 front end, no chassis rail notches, and fitted a type 9 2wd box. I just left the front diff, driveshafts etc. in situ but never ran it 4wd. At least if you do it that way, you can make it 4wd at a later date.
