We was going to go 2WD but we think to get the power down 4X4 and it wont be such a handfull .The truck is so solid i nearly gave up cause i thought i wont find a solid one

DixieTheKid 05-03-2013 06:23 PM

That's the same p100 model that I began with btw. So are you going IRS or Capri axle?

Cossie axle mate

rizla 05-03-2013 06:28 PM

The truck feels so long in length its about 500mm longer than the car

DixieTheKid 05-03-2013 06:35 PM

When you come to fit the rear beam, cut into the chassis below the old leaf spring hangers. If you box it out and down from the ladder chassis you will see the rear beam from under the tub and its a bit of an eye sore. I welded in a bit of 70x70x3mm box section to mount the diff mount/hanger and simply welded in for nuts.

Use the bump stops for the solid axle are a reference point when the tub is off to line up the drive shafts.

Estate rear trailing arms will work or coilovers because std rear dampers are miles to long.

rizla 05-03-2013 06:55 PM

And i take it the tub arches wont have to be made bigger the rear wheels going on are 9and a half inch dymags going on the rear and 8 on the front they was off my old 3door

sharky584 05-03-2013 06:56 PM

each to their own but having built a 4x4 and 2wd i wouldnt go back to 4x4 as having to much fun in the 2wd hence sold the 4x4.

Yeah i hear what you saying im 50/50 ok lets hear what others say as well 4x4 or 2wd opinions plz as for build pics that will be great there is a few on here who have built the trucks are right helpful Thanks to yous

matthewpickup 05-03-2013 09:48 PM

and the work starts lol :top:
i am going 4x4 partly due to having the 4x4 running gear and the other reason is i have been in my brothers 2wd sapphire and it really trys to kill you spinning up over 100mph dont get me wrong its alot of fun but if your not use to this your goin to land off the road (and in scotland its normally wet so this does not help any) , it comes down to the age old thing if you want to be sliding around go 2wd but 4x4 imo should be more controlable and better to put power down but as i said i am going 4x4 but if the gearbox dies every time i use it it will be going 2wd

Glenn_ 06-03-2013 04:29 AM

Cool project.I just think its a shame to pull that saff apart for its bits. The saff looks like a good car.

DixieTheKid 06-03-2013 06:31 AM

Just me and you sharky boy that will be sideways everywhere and all the tyre smoke on the drag strip.

rizla 06-03-2013 06:38 PM

Lol trys to kill you at 100mph

DixieTheKid 06-03-2013 06:51 PM

He means on one of the front chassis legs needs slight cutting out to make sure it clears drive shafts at all times. But will be able to tell how it should be from the cosworth shell:top:

It is a shame mate to break it but we got it for a good price body work could do with tidying but it drives so nice and no knocking or tapping from cold not bad considering it done 114k and i love the look of P100s

matthewpickup 08-03-2013 09:26 PM

Cars running stage3 so 300bhp the car feels quicker than my old 300bhp proven FRS .Going to do cut outs to be on the safe .Breaking the Saff on the easter weekend and try to get the truck stripped before just been so busy with work but the evenings are getting lighter .Have you got more pics you can put up of all your diff mounted up .

i have some but they are not great , but if your cutting into the chassis maybe better looking at the other two guys on here as that is how they have got it done and this may change how the diff is mounted ?

matthewpickup 09-03-2013 08:48 PM

i am also using a msd uprated diff mount fits the same but just saying

In line with EU regs that are being introduced to the UK MOT, chassis legs are not meant to be cut/ modified/ c - sectioned - i could find out the exact details if you like
