Angry My Westfield Cosworth

Hello all! I guess a lot of you have read Porkie`s thread with regards to his Westfield Cosworth build. Fantastic machine that it is.

I bought about a month ago now a Westfield Cosworth that had just been built. I know this might sound crazy but I bought it without going to see it as this time of year my work commitments are just mental. It got delivered just as we had the heavy snow so off it went into the garage to wait for warmer weather. The engine had been rebuilt to a 500bhp+ spec with GT3076r, chargecooler etc. I will list the spec later.

It was still running in when I bought it at 348 miles and I reckon I`ve done another 350 miles now so nicely run in. It was due to go to Mark Shead for post run in check over and fuelling check this week. It won`t be now as it`s going to need another rebuild.

I was driving it last Fri and noticed it felt down on power, especially off boost, it`s difficult to notice any power difference on boost because it`s so bloody powerful and it`s been difficult to get any temp into the A048 tyres. Anyway...drover her home, put in garage and all seemed fine. Went to start on Sat and there was a horrible metallic grinding noise about 10 seconds after start-up and it stalled. I took plugs out and turned it over, very tight. Started it again, probably shouldn`t, and it was smoking like a good un and no oil pressure.

Gutted isn`t the word. Up until then it`s been fantastic fun, lovely car and I was over the moon with it.

I`ve been in touch with Lee (Porkie) who put me in contact with Martin at Reyland who is coming down early tomorrow to collect the car and take it back with him for some investigation as to what has happened and rebuild it.

Not really what you expect after 700 miles!

No it bloody wasn`t cheap! Seriously gutted. I didn`t pay asking price but still with what i`m going to probably pay for rebuild that will bring it up to asking price.

I know it will be in good hands with Martin.

shame, bet once it was set up it would of been insane

but the question is what you were saying was you were still running the engine in, and you couldnt tell about boost lose or something and it was down on power? why were you giving it stick when it hasnt been set up as i bet it was just a running in map on it hence it proberbly blew up

Is running a custom MSD chip. As I stated it was really off boost I noticed it was down on power. I haven`t been giving it the beans and also boost is limited to 1 bar at the moment for running in. Yes of course i`ve had a cheeky dabble on the open road but nothing that should cause meltdown.

Ouch! i feel for you man.

I had the same issue a few years back, i went round the guys house & pretty much parked the car in his back side. Funny enough he didn't like it & gave me a few quid to get the issues sorted.

I hope everything works out for you & doesn't hurt to much, Martin is a legand.

Rob, the guy that built the car, is a gentleman and I have spoken to him regarding the failure so he is aware as he is using the same engine builder for his next project. As to any thing financial I`ve been brought up to keep these things private.

With engine tuning to the degree of doubling the manufacturers output there is always the flip side of that coin to consider. I don`t know the guy that built the engine but he apparently knows what he`s doing. Until Martin strips it down I guess none of us know what happened.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys! Will keep you updated

jesus that's some pretty shit luck regarding the engine but I can tell you first hand you'll be absolutely looked after by Martin - 3 times (i think ) I had my 3 door towed there as a non-runner, and each time he had it fixed and better than ever without taking the michael on price - can't recommend the guy highly enough

This will be an animal once fixed, hope you enjoy it

Hi mate, kept the car for about 4 years. Went very well, including to le mans . Was too loud for little un, so I sold it and bought an Elise. Its probably the only car I have really missed. Looking on DVLA check last week, nothing comes up on it, so not sure if it is still alive.

Another quick update, head is off already and NO DAMAGE!! Hurrah and hooray.

Small split in block between head bolt thread and water jacket, will now be long studded.

On to the bottom end.....

Gordon Scott. He has a lot of experience and a well deserved reputation within RSOC.

That`s why we`re thinking component failure.
