It is a 2.0 zetec.. mtx75 transmission the transfer box is on the drivers side shaft and the split is 58% of the power to the front wheels and 42% to the rear. According to the manual it is a further development to that used in the escort rs2000 4x4..

This is from the rear looking forward... Sorry about the rubbish pic's but they are really the only ones i have of the underside i took these when i was fitting a uprated 21mm rear anti roll bar from the states..
As you can see there is no specific tunnel for the 4wd gear and the fuel tank is 10 litres smaller than the standard one due to the u shape in it where the prop shaft runs..
And this is from the front just by the transfer box looking back....

Here's a pic of my old one
Was going to de-cheese it with proper RS bumpers (which I did buy) and turbocharge it but abandoned the project and sold it on.

I have managed to lower it now, spent ages looking for a kit for the 4x4 no one makes them, ford said it couldn't be done !! I managed to get hold of a set of bilstein shocks specially for the 4x4 and they went on with 4 new top mounts and a set of 35mm spax springs, i didn't want it to low but to have a nice stance which i think it now has..
Also fitted a short shifter as it is the early mondeo the gear change is rod not cable so it is the whole linkage that had to be changed not just the lever, whiched proved a ball ache as the prop shaft had to come out as there was no way of getting the old linkage out, let alone the new one in..

PassionFord Post Whore!!
nice car mate, the 4x4 setup is the same as the rs2k 4x4 only the mondeo transfere box is bigger and the power split is different as the rs2k is 60/40 split in favour of the rear wheels

Would love to turbo it, but i think it would be to hard on the transfer box.. Was thinking of throttle bodies or super charger..

The handling on it as standard was good but now, it has had a few tweeks like lowered, front and rear strut brace, and an uprated 21mm rear anti roll bar from the states, and poly bushed, It is superb, the bilstien shocks are quite hard, just waiting for some uprated front and rear drop links and some tubular rear arms and poly wish bone bushes once those are fitted will take it in and get it set up and a full geometry done..

It was the vospers in plymouth.
It was you and mill autos in helston that convinced me it could be done..

What a difference now compared to how it was when you first bought it, you must be well chuffed! You certainly don't see many of those around at all these days.
